READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
I took in a large collection of Beatles albums this week, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX. They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label. I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.
The vinyl is very good on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split. Here’s one that’s a great, solid copy.
Beatles LP 1967 Sgt. Pepper First Press RARE Hybrid Jax Labels Title on 1 Line, VG+!
Not many collectors have ever seen first pressing copies of Sgt. Pepper out of Jacksonville with the title on just one line. These are extremely hard to find. Originally, these copies were issued with the one-line title on both sides, and only in very limited quantity. This copy is a hybrid, where the Side 1 label has the title on one line, and the Side 2 label has the regularly-issued Jacksonville first pressing label.
This one is likely to be even rarer than the one-line titles on both sides. I’ve certainly never seen a second one in 50 years of collecting.
Vinyl--- VG+/VG+. That’s still a very strong grade. With 90% original shine on both sides, this copy has a scant few angel hairs per side, and a visible scuff on Side 1.
Plates--- B18/A17. Machine-Stamped letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.
Cover--- VG+. Front cover has light ringwear, not bad. Back cover has moderate ringwear, especially at the top. Bottom seam has light to moderate shelfwear, spine has a small area of torn, but not missing slick. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Gatefold--- EX. Gatefold still has bright and bold colors, just a slight amount of wear is detectable if you look. NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.
Insert--- EX. This is one of the best inserts I’ve ever seen from 1967. Stiff cardboard with dark and rich colors! I see just one lone and light finger divot, otherwise a flat and razor-sharp insert. Back has yellowed moderately.
Labels--- NM/NM. Side 1 label has that really cool label error where the text gets printed overtop of itself as the label is being printed, resulting in a ghost image. See photo. NO SPINDLE MARKS EITHER SIDE.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Red gradient sleeve is not present. Not sure if it came this way originally. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present instead. One side has a seam split almost all the way down.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A
I thought long and hard about keeping this one for myself. But I think it belongs in the hands of a fellow die-hard.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
