READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
This week, there are 15 original pressings that other sellers had graded as NM, but fell more into the strong VG+ to Excellent range. A few really do have NM vinyl. Those happen to be duplicates in my collection. Covers are mostly “meh.” Average damage.
I hope there are some treasures for you that will serve as your keepers. Have a look at them all!
Beatles LP 1969 Abbey Road First Pressing Scranton Thin Font Labels EX/VG+ VINYL
Vinyl--- EX/VG+. Side 1 looks very close to NM. Side 2 has two or three noticeable little faint marks, and one longer hairline.
Plates--- B10/ F40. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Cover--- Strong VG+. Cover construction has graphics printed directly onto the cover with white interior. Slicks were not used until the 1975 “All Rights” pressing. No “Her Majesty” on the back cover, making this cover a first printing. All seams are strong and intact, although there is extremely little shelfwear to the top and bottom seams. Light record outdent is present at the top on both sides. Tiny push-ins are present at some of the corners.
This is a very nice-looking cover, just not quite enough to allow an Excellent grade.
Labels--- EX/EX. “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer is present at the bottom of the Side 2 label, making this copy a first pressing. In-house labels that use the thinner font are slightly less common than the text layout we’re more familiar with. No copy with this thinner font includes “Her Majesty” on their labels.
If you’re a completist like I am, and you want one of each from Scranton, this is a great copy. However, each label has very light spindle marks that you need a bare bulb to find.
Inner Sleeve--- VG. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present and in VG condition. Sleeve presents EXCELLENT, but there is a bottom center split about 4 inches.
RIAA: N/A.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
