READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP 1970 Apple Sgt. Pepper UNCONFIRMED Label Variation Thought Not to Exist, NM!

This is the copy that is pictured in my books on flash drive, also for sale.  The books are the deepest dive ever into rare U.S. labels for Beatles albums, endorsed by our friend, Perry Cox.

As we know, in 1970, Apple Records had changed their Side 2 label variation for all titles that had originally come out on the Apple label.  From The White Album through “Hey Jude,” the Side 2 labels no longer featured the “Subsidiary of…” text with the small white Capitol logo at the bottoms of the labels.  The text was simply shortened to “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.”

For decades though, all the great books had listed this variation as not existing for the catalogue titles before The White Album.  But I’ve confirmed all titles.

Here’s a copy of Sgt. Pepper for sale in stunning condition.

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Both sides look rarely-barely played.

Plates--- P16/P16.  (Which at first glance looks like “PIG.”)  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- EX.  Cover looks like you just pulled the shrinkwrap off, with just one or two minor flaws after that. 

Back cover has the vertical text at the bottom spine AS WELL AS the Capitol logo and catalogue number at the bottom spine.  Later covers deleted the Capitol logo. This is the appropriate cover from that period of time.

All seams and spine are muscular-strong, NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Gatefold--- NM.  Looks like it’s been rarely opened.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Stunning cover.

Insert--- EX.  Close to NM, with the exception of just one finger divot that you’re going to have to search for.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Only the ghost of a spindle mark per side.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Sleeve is in gorgeous condition, with just a very slight yellowing.  Lies flat and razor-sharp.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

Passing on this copy will result in another example in a decade’s time for your list of the “one more that got away’s.”

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
