READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP 1971 Magical Mystery Tour Shrink Dark Side 2 Apple Label, Thick Font, NM!

This 1971 Apple pressing is a very strange pressing.  I’m not sure whether there are more like this one out there, or whether it’s an error pressing.  First, the Side 2 label is unusually dark.  But secondly, the print is very thick, like the copy of “Something New” that sold a couple weeks ago.  Close examination doesn’t look like a double-printed label.

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  I bought this copy sealed, and opened it to see which pressing it was, because I knew it wasn’t a first pressing.  I’ve never played it.

**Both sides have the “now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t” lenticular effect, where at certain angles in the light, you can see manufacturer’s defects in the playing surface.  But if you change the angle, it looks like an unplayed LP.

**Vinyl is thinner than Capitol vinyl stock, very similar to RCA’s Dynaflex vinyl, for those who remember those.

Plates--- A5/A15.  Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Definitely early refreshed plates.

Cover--- NM.  Still in the shrinkwrap, which is tight all around.  Cover has never been out of the shrinkwrap.  Original price sticker still affixed to the upper back cover.

Gatefold--- NM.  Gatefold has never been spread open.

Book--- NM.  Book has never been looked at.

Breathe Holes--- NM.  Breathe holes have never been breathed on.  (JK!)

There are two breathe holes on the front cover.  One is between the “B” and the “E” in the yellow-starred “Beatles,” the other is due south, below the rainbowed “M” in the word, “Magical.”

Labels--- NM/NM.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: N/A.

You want this one for yourself, or for your Beatles collector, come Christmas morn?  Very tough call!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
