READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split.  Here’s one that’s a great keeper.

Collectors know that the Los Angeles pressing plant was the mother plant for the U.S.  That means that whenever new plates arrived from England, the Los Angeles plant received them and made copies for the other plants. That process removed them once from the original source and reduced the sound quality of the records by one sound generation.

Los Angeles had four different label pressing variations of the “All Rights Reserved” run.  Two of them featured the disclaimer on two lines, one at the tops and the other at the bottoms of the labels.  A third variation had the disclaimer on five lines on each side.  But the variation that had absolutely the best sound quality for the entire run were these, with the yellow-tinted Apple labels.

A select few titles with audiophile sound quality from this “All Rights Reserved” run had the glow ring on the Apple and orange Capitol labels.  In addition to having been pressed from the first-generation Los Angeles plates, the glow ring pressings were pressed into thinner, superior quality vinyl.

But the non-glow ring LA titles from the same run still have decidedly superior sound quality to the pressings from all the other plants.

Also issued from the Winchester and Jacksonville plants, this "All Rights Reserved" label variation had the regular darker labels from those plants, and they have more midrange.  These have sharper highs that make the tracks crisp.

Look for the yellow-tinted Apple labels to complete the run. 

These are rare in NM condition.

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Both sides shine 100% brand new.

Plates--- H13/H13.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.

Cover--- EX.  Cover looks great.  But for some reason, the previous owner has reinforced the mouth of the cover with about 4 inches’ length of Scotch tape, where there is no damage whatsoever.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Both labels look 1975-brand new, with the exceptions of just a very few light spindle marks per side that you will have to search for.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX. Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Sleeve looks very close to brand new, with the exceptions of some very light record outdent and a few light wrinkles.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 18

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
