Beatles LP Beatles’ Story Toughest Apple Label Variation, 1970

In 1970, Apple Records printed the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer on the Side 2 sliced Apple labels.  But in 1971 and until very late 1975, the disclaimer was moved to the Side 1 whole Apple labels.  I guess Apple felt that people weren’t reading it…

It’s very hard to find these pressings for any of The Beatles’ catalogue because first, they were only in production for less than one year.  But secondly, as The Beatles broke up in 1970, and as they only had one new release printed on a red apple label, the only Beatles title to be released as a first-pressing of this variation was “The Beatles Again.”  And that was a compilation.

“The Beatles’ Story” was not selling by 1970, making this title one of the toughest to find from their catalogue, and probably THE toughest from this Apple label variation.

Vinyl--- EX/ VG+, EX/ EX.  Beautiful copy. (Scratches on Side 4 photo are brightened to show detail.  Not nearly this bad.)

Plates--- X9/ X7, X7/ X10.  Winchester copy with the hand-etched rifle in the dead wax.

Cover--- VG.  Has some seam splitting and dirtwear.  Meh.  It’s an old cover…

Labels--- EX/ NM, NM/ NM.  Side 1 label has one extremely light spindle mark that wasn’t there at the mint, so I can’t call it NM.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Issued in two generic white inner sleeves with die-cut holes for the labels to show.  Some seams are split a couple inches, some are still intact.

RIAA: None.

It’s going to be a while before you spot another one of these.  And when you do, it’s likely not to be in this nice condition.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
