Beatles LP Meet the Beatles RECORD CLUB HYBRID LABELS One Undocumented

Most collectors know that the green Target Record Club label has two variations for this title.  One has dashes between the digits of the catalogue number, and the other has none.  (See photo.)  But what most collectors don’t know is that there is a third label variation to this Record Club label, which has completely different typeset.  This variation is UNDOCUMENTED, and it has never been discussed in any of the great books out there.

I have been able to verify that there are a few Record Club titles with this variation, and that I’ve only found one copy of each.  These are very rare! 

This copy has the Side 1 label as the undocumented one.  I do own now, a copy with both labels in this typeset, so a labels collector should own this one.

Vinyl--- Both sides retain most of their original shine.  However, both sides also have some sort of vinyl cloudiness.  I did want to hear the LP before listing it, so I took it to a buddy’s house, and we played it start to finish.  The playback is not affected in the least from whatever that is in the grooves. Plays a clean VG+ to VG++.

Plates--- Both dead wax areas contain the additional “8” in the catalogue numbers, meaning that this disc is a Record Club issue pressed from the alternate plates used to make the reel-to-reel tapes.  Sometimes, different mixes can occur on these Record Club issues.

Cover--- On the one hand, the cover is still in the shrink.  On the other, it has sustained moderate moisture damage.  No mildew or mold is present.  Has the three diagonal lines at the top left corner, as well as the additional “8” in the catalogue number, making this a Record Club cover.

Labels--- Both are NM, NO spindle marks.  Notice the font and typeset of the Side 1 label, as compared to the Side 2 label.  The Side 1 label is the undocumented variation.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Issued in a plain white sleeve with no die-cut holes for the labels to show.  Excellent condition, no splits.  A generic white sleeve will be provided, so as not to split your originally released white inner sleeve.

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!) 

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
