CONDITION
Disc
Labels: EXCELLENT+
A superb unworn set of early black yellow Parlophone rim labels dating to 1963. There is a modicum of light spindle trails to each label. Side one carries the very early MT tax code. There is very little evidence of wear to the spindle holes. The writing on both labels appears fresh and completely unworn. There is no writing or personalization to either label. Now very tough to get a set of labels as nice as this on a 1963 UK issue of Please Please Me.
Audio: Side one EXCELLENT+ Side two EXCELLENT
The audio on this early 1963 vinyl has all the richness and power of a 1963 ‘black gold’ pressing and must have been pressed close to the end of the black & gold pressing cycle. The audio still retains much of it’s original sound quality. Side one plays superbly with most tracks grading at or around MINT. I did detect some light playwear on Chains and Boys. Side two grades at excellent. The tracks Honey and There’s a Place grade at VG+ and have some light surface noise with occasional light ticks but all other tracks grade at or above excellent+. All in all a great listening experience from this original vintage vinyl. The record does not jump or stick.
Visual: VERY GOOD+
As evidenced by the audio the vinyl is in very respectable condition for its age and has been well cared for and not been played excessively. Side one has various light handling marks when viewed under a strong halogen light and grades between VG+ and excellent-. Side two has a couple of stylus marks visible in daylight – one measures approximately 1cm the other about 3cm. The heavy duty vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Cover
EXCELLENT+
An original 1963 patents pending Garrod & Lofthouse cover. The front panel is in superb condition and retains its original high gloss laminate sheen and shows only minimal signs of wear. Front panel grades at around excellent+. The rear panel is free from writing or personalization but does show some signs of ageing and grades at excellent. All flipbacks are strong and intact. The spine is uncrushed with the writing clearly visible. A superb example of this early cover and difficult to find in this condition.
Inner-sleeve Excellent+
Original 1963 clear Emitex inner.
