The Beatles – Rubber Soul 1965 – UK 1st pressing in STEREO on the yellow & black Parlophone labels. PCS 3075. Dating to the 3rd December 1965 release date. Comes in its original 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse patents pending stereo sleeve.

This ultra rare STEREO copy has only been played a handful of times since new.

As John Lennon once said ‘Rubber Soul’ is when it started to get interesting’. A great album with tracks such as ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Michelle’, ‘Girl’, ‘in My Life’ and many more.

The workload of the Beatles in 1965 was enormous. After finishing their 2nd American tour at the end of August 1965 they returned home and under pressure from EMI were almost ordered to write, record and produce an album in time for the Christmas market. It’s an indication of their genius; for what they came up with inside those few weeks was the masterpiece – Rubber Soul. Recording finished in November of 1965 and discs were cut on 17th, 19th and 23rd of that month and rushed to the EMI pressing plant in Hayes where production immediately started. The finished article was delivered into the shops on the 3rd December 1965.

Visual: EXCELLENT+ 

Superb looking vinyl which appears virtually mint in strong daylight. There are some marks on the run out grooves close to the labels. On closer examination under a strong halogen desk light nothing much more is revealed other than one or two faint handling marks. There are certainly no scratches or distracting marks. Superb condition especially for stereo. The heavy duty disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.

Labels: Side one EXCELLENT  Side two EXCELLENT+ 

Both labels carry the larger ‘stereo’ logo positively dating the record to 1965. There are some very light spindle trails indicating that the record has been played only a handful of times since new. Side one carries the KT tax code. Neither label has any writing or personalization.

Audio: EXC+ to MINT-

Superb analogue audio throughout; very difficult to fault other than some light surface noise between some tracks and some very light surface noise on Michelle. Most tracks grade at mint or near MINT. Unlike later re-mastered copies this original 1st STEREO pressing has amazing vocal separation and the clarity of the harmonies makes it very different to its mono counterpart. Girl, In My Life, Norweigian Wood and You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away all play superbly. There are no loud pops or ticks and the record does not jump or stick.

EXCELLENT+ 

A superb and ultra rare 1965 1st issue Patents Pending Garrod & Lofthouse STEREO cover, retaining much of its original freshness. The front panel still retains its original high gloss laminate sheen. There are some areas of speckling to the laminate but this was clearly done in manufacture. There are a few small light thumbnail creases to the front panel. Front panel grades at excellent. The rear panel is close to its original shop freshness; very clean with no personalization and no apparent signs of ageing. All the flipbacks are intact. Spine is uncrushed and in perfect condition.

Original 1965 rice paper inner with no seam splits.
