The Beatles – Rubber Soul 1965 – UK Original 1965 issue on the yellow & black Parlophone labels, PMC 1267 dating to the original release date of 3rd December 1965. Comes in its original and rare 1st issue E J Day cover.
20th century collectables is pleased to offer for sale this stunning nr MINT vinyl copy of the Beatles classic Rubber Soul. Incredibly rare in this condition.
As John Lennon once said ‘Rubber Soul is when it started to get interesting’. A great album with tracks such as ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Michelle’, ‘Girl’, ‘in My Life’ and many more. The analogue sound on this copy is breathtaking.
The workload of the Beatles in 1965 was enormous. After finishing their 2nd American tour at the end of August 1965 they returned home and under pressure from EMI were compelled to write, record and produce an album in time for the Christmas market.
It’s an indication of their genius; for what they came up with inside those few weeks was the masterpiece – Rubber Soul. Recording finished in November of 1965 and discs were cut on 17th, 19th and 23rd of that month and rushed to the EMI pressing plant in Hayes where production immediately started. The finished article was delivered into the shops on the 3rd December 1965. These -4 matrix pressings formed part of the original 1965 pressing run.
Happy bidding and good luck!
Matrix numbers: XEX 579-4 & YEX 580-4

CONDITION
Disc
Visual: nr MINT
Beautiful shop fresh vinyl with all of its original factory sheen. On first viewing the vinyl appears in mint condition. On close and extended inspection under a halogen desklight nothing much more is revealed other than the faintest of whispy sleeve removal marks. This exceptionally well cared for disc comes close to an all out MINT grading. The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable. A real stunner and exceptionally rare to find vinyl from 1965 in this condition.
Labels: EXCELLENT+
A superb set of labels which still retain much of their original freshness. There is a modicum of spindle trails to each label but it is clear that the record has not received that many plays in its 49 year history and has been well cared for. Side 2 carries the KT tax code.
Audio: Side 1 EXCELLENT+ Side 1 nr MINT
Superb sounding mono audio. There is some occasional light surface noise at high volume and an audible ‘pop’ in the gap between the tracks ‘The Word’ and the track ‘Michelle’. The easily damaged tracks ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Girl’ & ‘In My Life’ play superbly without distortion. The record does not jump or stick.
Cover
EXCELLENT+
A superb example of this the much rarer 1965 E J Day Rubber Soul cover. The front panel is remarkably well preserved with unworn and ultra sharp corners. There are some light thumbnail creases but other than this the front panel is pristine condition. The rear panel has only very mild signs of ageing. There are no tape marks or writing to any area of the back cover. All flipbacks are strong and intact. The spine is undamaged and in pristine condition. The Parlophone logo on the bottom right on the front cover is missing the words ‘Trade Mark of The Gramophone Company’.
Inner-sleeve Excellent-
Original 1965 rice paper inner. Clean and fresh. Has one small tear around centre hole.
