READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles LP White Album White Vinyl Mud Pressing, ALTERNATE UNDOCUMENTED LABELS!

Not many collectors are aware that this 1978 white vinyl pressing had a very early label variation prepared specifically for this release.  It features the song titles all below the playhole, left-justified on the label.  There certainly were NOT that many of these pressed and issued.

**It’s a consignment pressing.

**The far more familiar variation features the song titles in a column on the right-hand side of the playhole with all the credits information on the left.  No idea why Capitol had switched the format, but my best guess is that maybe they had already typeset the labels for the red and blue colored vinyl labels, and that they wanted to stay consistent.

**If that’s the case, then it makes this an error pressing! ** 

**This variation might be mistaken for a straight transfer label from the purple Capitol text layout, but it certainly isn’t.  At a glance, you can see that the text layout is center-justified on the regular purple Capitol label, and that’s just for starters.  See compere photo. 

**It also might be mistaken for the Canadian pressing, which officially issued their white vinyl copies with left-justified titles.  But it’s definitely not the Canadian issue, either.  See compere photo.  (Image taken from the internet.)

**In addition to this special copy being one of the FAR rarer first label variations, it’s also a mud pressing.  It has light streaks of brown in the vinyl!**

Since 1978, I have seen just two of these.  You’re not going to see another one.

Vinyl--- NM/NM. VG/NM. 

**Side 3 would have also been NM, had it not been for some dope trying to clean the brown streak off with something slightly abrasive.  Because of the nature of the white vinyl, I couldn’t photograph it, but it’s pretty centralized to the brown streak.

It’s hard to see, and I missed it when I bought it.  You can very lightly feel it with the fingertip, not bad though.  I will guess that it will play, but expect a “whiff” sound on every rotation.

Plates--- Strange mish-mash of plates.

Side 1 has no alpha-numeric designation, but it does have the Winchester rifle.

Side 2 has a G11 plate, but no Capitol insignia.

Side 3 has no alpha-numeric designation, but it does have the Winchester rifle.

Side 4 has a G11 plate, but no Capitol insignia.

**All four sides have the machine-stamped “Mastered by Capitol” disclaimer.

Cover--- VG.  Does have some dirtwear and slight shelfwear to the top and bottom edges, but NO SPLITS.  Front cover has light record outdent, back cover has moderate record outdent.

Gatefold--- EX.  Some light wear, not much at all.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Photos--- VG+/VG+. VG+/VG+.  Light to moderate amount of finger divots.

Poster--- Poster would also grade VG+, except that unfortunately, the seam below George’s face has separated.  Insert sad-faced icon here.

**All inserts have the correct catalogue number printed on their bottom left corners, SEBX-11841.

Labels--- EX/EX. EX/EX.  Side 1 label has some manufacturer’s lines.  Side 2 has some label cracks.  Otherwise, just a stray spindle mark on one or two of them.

**Whereas the common labels have dull silver domes, this copy has bright white domes.

**Side 2 label still misspells “Raccoon” as “Racoon.” Tsk.

Capitol Inner Sleeves--- Generic white inner sleeves with die-cut holes for the labels to show are present.

Generic inner sleeves will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeves en route.

Two copies in 50 years’ time is a scarce record.  This one’s a mud pressing.

If you’re ever going to be haunted by the Ghost of Christmas Past, it’s going to be missing out on this one!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
