Description

I’ve gone into the vault (closet) and found more treasure (Beatles group and solo promo records) to bring out and auction off as I downsize my collection. I discovered additional duplicates of  Beatles and solo Promo vinyl, so please check my other auctions for MORE PROMO VINYL that may be of interest to you.

 

In this auction:

 

·       “WHATEVER GETS YOU THROUGH THE NIGHT” by John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Nuclear Band 

·       This is Apple Records P - 1874.

·       This is a PROMOTIONAL SINGLE with MONO on the A-side and STEREO on the B-side.

·       As you may know, PROMO RECORDS were released by record companies ONLY to the radio stations and DJs for airplay. They were not released or made available to the general public.

·       This record was issued in September of 1974.  

·       This APPLE PROMO RECORD is quite significant, as it was John Lennon’s ONLY SOLO #1 RECORD in his lifetime.

·       In fact, in November of 1974 John took to the stage at Madison Square Garden as a guest of Elton John because of this record. Elton had sung on “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” on Lennon’s  “Walls and Bridges” LP and had made Lennon agree to join him  live on stage should the record go to #1. As luck (and talent) would have it, it did!!! (Thanks to Chris Ingham’s book, The Rough Guide to The Beatles, for this information.)

·       The VINYL is NEAR MINT MINUS!!! There are just a few very slight surface hairlines/scuffs.

·       A Near Mint Apple Records stock sleeve is included.

·       A nice and significant Beatles-related John Lennon & the Plastic Ono Band PROMO 45 RPM RECORD for YOUR vinyl collection!!!
