Original 1967 UK Mono Magical Mystery Tour double-EP, as identified in
Bruce Spizer’s 2011 reference book “Beatles For Sale on Parlophone Records.”
The information below is based on the book’s detailed description (page 396, along with photos on page 398) and the Spizer cataloging system, which is very useful in identifying specific pressings.
DESCRIPTION:
The cover is a first issue Mono (Spizer ID # PAR MMT.MC1A.)
- The lyric sheet in the center is on light blue paper (later 60s issues were lilac, 70s & beyond were yellow).
- The bottom flap of the inside back cover has the text, “Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.”
The discs are first issue Mono, font variation B (Spizer ID # PAR MMT.MR1B).
- The label text includes: “Gramophone” perimeter print; “Sold in U.K.” text; “THE BEATLES in Songs And Music from the T.V. Film ‘MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR.”
- The Parlophone logo is silver (unlike the yellow logo on the earlier EP titles).
- The font variation on the publishing credit is “normal” print on 2 lines, identifying this copy as MR1B (MR1A has small print on 3 lines).
The two inner sleeves are white with “wavy” tops.
CONDITION:
Discs: Some scuffs from handling, and a few light hairline scratches here and there; no deep play-related scratches. Overall, both discs are a solid VG+.
Cover: Most of the visual issues are age-related: some fading, yellowing and some discoloration on the inside front & back cover areas. Beyond that, there are a couple of minor (1”) creases on the front left cover. The booklet is intact and in really nice shape - note in the pics that there are very tiny tears on the very bottom of pages 9, 19, 21 & 23.
Conservatively, I’ll call it VG+.
The set will be packaged very carefully for shipping - yes, even the wavy-top sleeves!
