Description

THE BEATLES - PLEASE PLEASE ME

A rare and sought after copy (especially in as wonderful a condition as this) of this 1963 UK fifth pressing on the UK yellow/black Parlophone label, MONO PMC 1202

...to be honest I just discovered this record in a pile of vinyl which I had stored away in my daughter's loft in a sealed container a few years ago and had completely forgotten that I had it! The condition is so, so good that I'm hesitant to sell but since I have NINE other copies of this Beatles classic and am in need of extra space here we go...

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  XEX 421 - 1N with stampers "1 4" and "T A" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2  XEX 422 - 1N with stampers "4" and "TT" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The appearance of the vinyl is stunning. Completely flat and very heavy duty, and when viewed in normal daylight still retaining it's original beautiful glossy and jet black lacquered sheen - a real "gleamer". Even under a bright light source it is difficult to find any blemishes at all...I could just about make out a 2 cm superficial pencil thin scuff on side 2 and if I'm being really picky there may be a couple of very, very light and small paper scuffs, but these are insignificant and the outstanding condition of both sides of this vinyl point to just a few plays. Truly remarkable condition for this 63 year old antiquity.

The labels are pristine. No blemishes whatsoever, not even the usual one or two very faint spindle trails. All silver text, and of course the iconic yellow "PARLOPHONE" and logo, sit perfectly upon the equally perfect matt black textured background. Note the presence of the "Recording first published 1963" text indicating a genuine sought after fifth pressing.

The front-side laminated and flip back Ernest J. Day outer sleeve is EXCELLENT+! Remarkably, no scuffing at all on any of the edges, with the corners remaining perfectly defined right angles with no rubbing, and no fraying whatsoever on any of the opening edges. Similarly the reverse side flip backs are perfect...in fact the whole of the reverse side is just perfect with not even a hint of any age discolouration. There is even the original price written neatly in pencil of "32\-" - that means thirty two shillings which is equivalent to £1.60 in today's currency. Amazing! There is just one very minor blemish and it is a tiny "nick" with three small, faint laminate creases adjacent to the bottom edge - see photo.  Note that the "Ernest J. Day" credit in the bottom right corner further authenticates this as a 5th pressing.

Finally, the quality of the audio is...well, it's stunning! There are no pops, no clicks, no skips, and from the second the stylus is placed onto the vinyl to the instant it is removed there is no background crackle/interference whatsoever. Outstanding! Fabulous MONO tone and clarity throughout with absolutely no distortion, even at higher frequency and higher volume. Every track on this wonderful LP makes for a great listen.

The tracks are :

Side 1 :

1. I SAW HER STANDING THERE

2. MISERY

3. ANNA (GO TO HIM)

4. CHAINS

5. BOYS

6. ASK ME WHY

7. PLEASE PLEASE ME

Side 2 :

1. LOVE ME DO

2. P.S. I LOVE YOU

3. BABY IT'S YOU

4. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET

5. A TASTE OF HONEY

6. THERE'S A PLACE

7. TWIST AND SHOUT

Comes with original  "USE EMITEX CLEANING CLOTH..." tracing paper lined, die-cut inner sleeve with no splits, tears, fraying or age discolouration though there is a small (the size of a thumb nail) light stain located in the bottom left quadrant on side 1. Otherwise excellent+ and 100% fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly EXCELLENT PLUS (I'm sure that many would class as "near mint") copy of this rare and sought after 1963 UK 5th pressing MONO Beatles classic, deserving to grace any Beatles record collection and only continuing to gain in value.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other 60's & 70's classic vinyl listings.

bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 48 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 63 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60's and 70's that I have never come across before. Wonderful! Richard

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be :

for the UK Royal Mail 1st class, tracked and signed for : £5.00

for continental Europe Royal Mail 1st class/Airmail tracked and signed for : £10.00

and for Rest of the World Royal Mail 1st class/Airmail tracked and signed for : £14.00

I DO discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage charges.

Good luck with your bidding! Richard

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
