Grading 

for vinyl is VG-/ VG/ VG+/ NM and sealed. I do not use “EX”. I only offer trashed or unplayable records for auction if they are exceptionally rare.

Beatles: Paperback Writer / Rain very rare South African 7” single in S.A. only 

picture sleeve 1966

visually: black labels with silver writing. Several spindle marks on both labels, but no writing. 

The vinyl on both sides has numerous scratches, marks and scuffs. This is a well-played copy.

I would grade ‘Paperback Writer’ somewhere between 

VG- and VG. It plays with some surface noise but it is nonetheless still playable and enjoyable. 

I would grade ‘Rain’ as VG- since surface noise is more noticeable than it is on ‘Paperback Writer’. While there is more wear on this track - and this ‘competes’ somewhat with the music - it is still playable.  

No ‘skips’ or ‘jumps’.

Unique picture sleeve is in extremely Poor condition. There is noticeable yellowing, ‘spotting’ (brown flecks), ring wear, creasing. 

There are numerous tears (top of the sleeve; on both sides) and an approx. 5 cm split at the bottom of the wrap-around sleeve. Given the flaws noted above the general impression is not very favourable. 

The sleeve is still functional- but only just. No writing.

All in all, a below average copy of this rare South African pressing. Though it is not “trashed”, it is more of a placeholder

 or filler copy in some respects (please see above).
