Description
This is the stereo version of the Beatles 1st LP, Please Please Me, Parlophone PCS 3042. The matrices are YEX 94-1 to Side 1 and YEX 95-1 to Side 2. This was issued in 1963 as evidenced by ‘The Parlophone Co Ltd’ in the rim print and no ‘Subject to Resale…’ language on the label. This is a very early pressing with both sides taken from the first mother. The stamper on Side 1 is GO and on Side 2 a single M.
The vinyl is a gorgeous EX+ with full rainbow gloss. There are a couple very short, light lines on each side that keep it from M- and they don't affect the sound. I have had this LP in my collection for several years and have played it twice, once to play grade it. Side 1 plays near to mint while Side 2 is just a whisper below at EX+. The vinyl has no surface noise; i.e., hiss, static, etc. or distortion. What is truly stunning about this LP is its sonic presence. The very early Parlophone pressings, such as this one, have a sonic presence to them that is definitely noticeable. This LP puts the Beatles in your listening room.
The jacket was printed by Garrod & Lofthouse and is a very nice EX, perhaps a bit better. There are no seam splits, tears, stains, or writing on the jacket. There is no ring wear except a slight hint of a beginning at the very bottom of the front. It is not noticeable unless you look closely and no color is worn off the jacket. There is no evidence of any ring wear on the back. There are a few light half-moon creases on the front but they are light and not readily noticeable. The back of the LP is clean and the flipback seams are clean and intact. The Emitex inner die-cut sleeve is M-.
The stereo version of this LP is much rarer than the mono version and early pressings of this LP are quite rare in this condition. The earliest pressings were usually bought by the hard-core Beatles fans and played to death. This LP has escaped that fate. The combination of the condition of this early pressing and that it is the rarer stereo version makes this a very nice package for any collector of the Beatles' UK LPs. Buyer to pay costs of shipping and insurance. I also have a M- 1963 mono pressing of this LP currently listed on Ebay.
