Description
This auction is for what I believe to be a first pressing of the Beatles “Please Please Me” single, with “Ask Me Why” on the B side, on the red Parlophone label. The catalogue number is 45-R-4983 and the numbers stamped on the vinyl are 7XCE 17217-1N (A side) and 7XCE 17218-1N (B side). The other numbers stamped, which I believe are sometimes referred to as “mothers” and “stampers”, are 1.1 PT1 at the “9 o’clock” position and “L” at the “3 o’clock” position on the A side, with 1.1 PT2 at the “9 o’clock” position and “GG” at the “3 o’clock” position on the B side. As the photograph shows, there is writing on the middle part of the record; side B is similar. There are some light scratches on the surfaces and a minor warp to a small part of the disc but it still plays surprising well in spite of this. It comes in the green Parlophone sleeve shown in the photograph.
