THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK 1st MONO PRESSING LP
*BLACK & GOLD LABELS*
**RARE 'NORTHERN SONGS' LABEL CREDITS**
This rare 1963 first mono pressing is on the UK black & GOLD Parlophone label: PMC 1202
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but carry 'Parlophone Co Ltd...' rims
The labels carry the correct 'Northern Songs Ltd.' publishing credits for songs: 1,2,6 & 7 on side 1, and songs: 4 & 6 on side 2.
The side two label has a groove around the label but is not a 'contract pressing'. This feature was common to most 50's/early '60s EMI pressings.
The 'MT' tax/price code is visible in the centre of the side two label.
Housed in a correct, front laminated, flipback 'E.J. Day' cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with original clear window, poly-lined 'Use Emitex' inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/T & 1/H
Labels: EXCELLENT
A fine pair of 'matt' examples with bright and clean gold print bearing minimal wear to the centre holes which have not been 'inked-in' to hide wear.
The letters 'KEV' have been written in ballpoint pen on the side 1 label and are just visible above the '..AR..' of 'Parlophone'.
Visual: VERY GOOD
Both surfaces of the disc are clean and bright and undulled by overplay, 'groove-whitening' or poor handling.
The surfaces do bear some noticeable surface marks and the occaisional light scratch but no deep or 'feelable' marks.
The thick heavy vinyl retains its sharp edges and lies 100% flat on the turntable with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: VERY GOOD
Although this copy has been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality.
There is some light crackle on the run-ins and the occaisional soft 'tick' between tracks but no hiss or major sounding marks.
The music plays well with just some light intermittant background but no heavy groovewear distortion, crackle, jumps or repeats.
Cover: GOOD
This correct example displays moderate handling and storagewear but no major faults.
The front panel is bright and clean with some light creases around the edges but no missing laminate or paper.
The corners and opening edge display moderate storagewear but again no serious faults.
The rear panel is fairly clean with just slight discolouration but no marks or writing anywhere.
There is a small section of missing paper on the upper right corner and lower flipbacks and some wear to the upper edge but the lower edge is undamaged.
The spine is unworn, clean and readable with no missing paper or laminate.
