THE BEATLES – PLEASE, PLEASE ME
(AUSTRALIA, PARLOPHONE PMCO 1202)
(BLACK & GOLD 2ND PRESSING – FEB 1964)
Sought after Australian Parlophone Black & Gold 2nd Pressing of the Beatle’s debut album, ‘Please Please Me’ released early 1964. This second pressing features a slightly different Parlophone label from the initial release, with the EMI distribution details adjacent to the spindle holes as opposed to the bottom of the label in semi circle. Also the 2nd Australian Cover pressed denotes both Mono and Stereo Catalogue numbers. (Initial pressings of the Aussie cover only featured the Mono number as the Stereo release was not issued until early 1964.)

The issue with these covers is that since EMI Australia cut costs, the cover was printed without laminate making these prone to major ringwear and tearing. That is why it’s difficult to find Excellent condition examples of these.
The Black & Gold Mono Parlophone label was phased out for the next pressing around the time of the Beatle’s Australian tour in June ’64, which was the Yellow/Black label.
Any Beatles Australian Black & Gold Mono Parlophone pressings are highly sought after as their Australian popularity didn’t explode until around early 1964, so consequently numbers of lp’s with these labels rarely turn up for sale in acceptable condition.

Cover = VG/VG+ (Unlaminated EMI sleeve. Cover is intact, slight wear on spine, minor ringwear, and small tear bottom right Front Cover which has tape over it . Rated VG. Back Cover is generally clean, ringwear indentation - VG+. No cover lip tears or writing)
Record = VG (Markings, small scuffs, hairlines. Minimal crackling and slight clicking in places. Couple of clicks at the commencement of 'Love Me Do'. Strong VG play, closer to VG+ most of the time)
Black Parlophone labels in Very Good condition with slight spindle markings on Side 1.
