Description

This is the genuine and rare "third pressing" of Please Please Me - identified by the ABSENCE of the words "Recording first published 1963" on the left of the spindle hole between the "XEX 422" and the number "2"  (see blank space in the photo on the left).

First mother pressing marked on both sides of the LP.

Comes with the first press cover, as issued with the first issue black/gold label LP's

This "third press" LP, sometimes called the "transitional" pressing is rarer than the earliest black/gold pressings of Please Please me.

Please/please me 1963 History

The first two pressings in March 1963 were on the black/gold label, then as record demand exploded in 1963, production changed to yellow/black 4th (and most common) pressings of Please please me.

In between, for only a short period of time came the 3rd pressing, soon terminated as mistakes had been made in the labelling.  

This Third Press Vinyl LP  has

* "Recording first published 1963" is missing from the left of the spindle hole (third pressing only)
* Tax code ZT stamped on side 2.  This is the tax code for items pressed before the official sale/release date in March 1963
* Catalogue number PMC 1202 (mono)
* The original yellow/black label
* Identifier XEX 421-1N and 422-1N
* First mother pressing on both sides; mother/stampers are 1PO and 1RG
* All rights of the manufacturer message.... starts with "The Parlophone Co..."
* Dick James credits for Please please me and Ask me Why
* EX play grading.

Outer Sleeve
* Original laminated sleeve made by Ernest J Day.
* First issue cover, normally sold with the first issue black/gold label LP- identified by the positioning of "photo-Angus McBean" to the extreme right of the word songs at  the bottom of the cover.
* No writing, and no serious damage or tears but now a little worn around the outer edges,  and the paper on the back not protected by laminate is off-white.

Inner Sleeve
* Emitex sleeve.
* EX- condition.
* Semi-opaque polythene lining to the die hole.
* One short tear on the centre hole; one top corner has  brown ageing/discolouration.


VISUAL AND PLAY GRADINGS
Both sides have been played and listened to all the way through and individually graded.  Both sides play with no hops, no jumps, no sticks or any other unwanted noises.
Side 1 - Play graded Excellent, there were no ticks, no clicks, no hops, no sticks, no crackling or other background noises. Visually graded VG+ no deep scratches but has light surface superficial scuffing which had no effect whatever on the soundtracks. 
Side 2 - Play graded Excellent-  no ticks, no hops, no jumps, no sticks, no crackling; on the whole side I heard just a few quiet clicks in the quiet gap between tracks4/5 Visually graded VG+ no deep scratchess but has light superficial surface scuffing  which had no effect upon the music sound tracks.
