Description
This "third press" LP, sometimes called the "transitional" pressing is rarer than the earliest black/gold pressings of Please Please me (and that is according to the Beatles museum, not according to me.) This pressing is identified by the details of the text on the label
It also comes with an original "black/gold" outer cover. This cover is identified by the position of the text at the base of the front face
Please/please me 1963 History
The first two pressings in March 1963 were on the black/gold label, then as record demand exploded in 1963, production changed to yellow/black 4th (and most common) pressings of Please please me.
In between, for only a short period of time came the 3rd pressing, soon terminated as mistakes had been made in the labelling.
The 3rd press LP is most easily identified by the ABSENCE of "Recording first published 1963" to the left of the spindle hole of the LP.

* Catalogue number PMC 1202 (mono)
* The original yellow/black label
* Identifier XEX 421-1N and 422-1N
* "Sold in the UK" is missing
* All rights of the manufacturer message.... starts with "The Parlophone Co..."
* Large MONO on front of the cover
* Dick James credits for Please please me and Ask me Why
Outer Sleeve has
* The text "photo; Angus Mcbean" is at the FAR RIGHT of the bottom of the cover. (As on black/gold album covers only.) On the yellow/black 4th pressing and all later issues this text is further to the left.
* ZT tax code !!!! clearly visible on side 1 (in photo - Z below the spindle hole, T above it) This is the tax code for production in 1962, the code had changed to MT by the time Please please me was first sold to the public 2 months later.

VISUAL AND PLAY GRADINGS
Outer Cover - The laminated front of the cover is in VG++ condition with no tears, no rips, no writing, just a few light scuffs along the bottom edge where it has been standing for 42 years. The all-important text "photo: Angus McBean" starts to the RIGHT of the last letter of the word songs, and not to the left as in later issues. The rear of the cover is also in very good condition with all flapbacks well stuck down, no writing, and no scuffing at the record entrance. Unfortunately just over 1 inch of the flapback is missing at the bottom left as clearly shown in the photo.
Inner Cover - Paper slighly yellowing at open edge with 40+years of old age, where it has been more exposed to light but completely intact apart from minor seam split on the sides. Showing the lightest of wear with some creasing.
Vinyl - There are no scratches or markings that produce any audible effect on the excellent sound track. Visually there a few light superficial scratch marks on each side, 3-4, and under strong light scuffing consistent with age is evident Visually rated VG. The LP has been carefully played and listened to on both sides; the only marking on the vinyl that can be heard on the sound track is BEFORE the start of track1.
