Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'

UK 1963 *BLACK & GOLD* LABEL 1st PRESS MONO LP

**EXCELLENT & EARLY**

This impressive copy of The Beatles' 1st UK LP is on the black & gold Parlophone label: PMC 1202
The labels carry the initial 'Dick James Mus. Co' publishing credits for songs 1 & 2 on side 1 and tracks 4 & 6 on side 2.
The side 2 label bears a distinctive 'groove' running around the label, approximately 1cm from the edge
N.B. This groove was caused by some early copies being pressed on older EMI presses and does not signify a 'contract' pressing.
An 'MT' tax/price code is visible on the side 1 label.

Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/O & 1/H
Disc weight: 170g

Housed in a correct & early front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit positioned in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: Side 1: EXCELLENT Side 2: EXCELLENT MINUS

An extremely respectable set with bright, unfaded gold print on both sides.
There is some minor hole-wear on label 1 and a few small scratches towards the centre on side 2, which are a little whiter than they appear in the above image.

Visual: EXCELLENT

This very well-looked after copy retains all of its 'as new' deep gloss shine on both sides with no dull or cloudy areas from improper storage or careless handling.
Careful inspection in strong, direct daylight shows just one or two very faint lines from inner-sleeve removal on side 1 and just a single, very light mark on track one of side 2.
Otherwise, both sides are totally unmarked and untarnished.
Close inspection directly beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals nothing more than a sparkling rainbow shine and some insignificant wispy inner-sleeve removal hairlines, but no further wear or any major marks.
A thick, quality pressing which lies 100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.

Audio: EXCELLENT

This disc has received just some careful, infrequent play and my careful play-check at volume revealed no groovewear distortion or any significant deterioration to the sound quality, or any major faults.
A touch of light/normal background is audible on the run-ins and between tracks, but there are no clicks, pops or any other signs or wear.
Both inner-tracks on both sides played without any signs of wear in either channel and of course there are no jumps, repeats or any other audible faults not mentioned above.

Cover: EXCELLENT

An unblemished front panel which retains a spotless, sparkling high-gloss laminate which has just a small bend to the lower left corner but no 'thumbnails' or any other creases or other wear at all elsewhere.
All corners are in excellent shape with just a hint of shelfwear rubbing to the lower two, but no bumps or bruising to any. Both opening edges are very clean & sharp with no tears or 'feathering'.
The rear is extremely clean & white with no handling marks, stains, writing or missing paper. Apart form a single light crease to the lower left corner, it is immaculate.
All the delicate flipbacks are clean, intact with no repaired or damaged sections. Both seams are totally smooth and unworn with no flaking or missing laminate.
The spine perfectly straight, clean & fully worded.

Inner-sleeve: VERY GOOD

Clean and white with just normal storage/handling wear but no tears, writing or splits.
