THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
UK 1963 1st *BLACK & GOLD* LABEL *STEREO* LP
**THE RAREST UK LP**
It is my pleasure to offer here a copy of the rarest and most sought after UK Beatles LP - the ultra-rare *1st STEREO* pressing is on the black & gold Parlophone labels: PCS 3042
Only a reported 900 copies were sold and this example with its '1/G' mother/stamper confirms it as being one of the 1st few hundred copies pressed.
Both labels have the initial, incorrect 'Dick James Mus. Co' publishing credits for songs 1 & 2 on side 1 and tracks 4 & 6 on side 2.
An 'MZT' tax/price code is embossed around the side 1 centre hole.
Matrix numbers: YEX 94-1 & YEX 95-1
Stamper numbers: 1/R & 1/G
Disc weight: 164g
Housed in a correct, early front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' printed stereo cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit is positioned in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Labels: 1. EXCELLENT 2. EXCELLENT PLUS
As you can see, both labels are clean and bright with no rubbing to the print or any missing text.
Label 1 has a few light scratches but label 2 is pristine & unmarked and there is no touch-up, writing or missing paper to either.
Visual: VERY GOOD
Both sides of this rare copy are clean and bright but do bear some light surface marks and an occaisional light scratch in daylight, consistant with moderate handling and play.
The only significant visual fault is 1mm wide circumferal line on the first track of side 2. However, this does not affect the sound when played.
Close & careful inspection directly beneath my halogen desk lamp reveals numerous light paper hairlines and a few stylus lines but no deep or serious marks.
A thick & heavy pressing which lies 100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: EXCELLENT MINUS
Despite moderate play, this copy has clearly only been played on good quality equipment as all tracks play cleanly & clearly without any groovewear distortion or playwear in either channel.
My careful play-check, at volume revealed no background noise during the songs and just a touch on the run-ins and band between the tracks.
The only significant faults I detected were a few light clicks in the band between tracks 1 & 2 on side 2 and some on the fade-out 'Do You Want To Know A Secret' and the follwoing band.
Happily, even the easily damaged inner tracks: 'Please, Please Me' & 'Twist & Shout' play cleanly and clearly in both channels with no audible wear to either.
Of course there are no jumps, repeats or any other significant audible fault which I have not mentioned above.
Cover: VERY GOOD PLUS
An bright, clean & glossy front panel which retains its high-gloss lamiante, bearing just slight storagewear rubbing but no heavy creasing or major wear.
There is some shelfwear rubbing to the lower corners & slight bruising to the upper two. The front opening edge displays slight wear and a small 'push' to the upper part no tears to either side.
The rear is very clean and bright white with no yellowing, handling marks, writing or missing paper.
Apart from a tiny crease to the flipback in the lower right corner, all the are clean & intact with no tears or missing pieces.
Both seams are smooth and unworn with no flaking or missing laminate and the spine clean & perfectly worded.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT PLUS
Clean and flat with no tears, writing or splits.
