THE BEATLES
'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK 1st PRESS GOLD & BLACK MONO LP
**DICK JAMES & NORTHERN SONGS** LABEL CREDITS
This rare 'crossover' pressing occured for just a few weeks as the incorrect 1st pressing labels with 'Dick James' label publishing credits were changed to the correct 'Northern Songs'. The side two label also displays a distinctive groove as a result of manufacture on the old style EMI presses. It is not a contract pressing.
This is a very rare variant and pure coincidence that I offered a similar copy for sale two weeks ago.
This is a different copy and unlikely to be seen for a while.
This rare 1963 first mono pressing is on the UK black and gold Parlophone label PMC 1202
The labels carry the 'Dick James Mus. Co.' publishing credits for songs: 1 & 2 on side one and 'Northern Songs' for 4 & 6 on side two.
Both labels carry omit the 'Sold in UK..' but carry 'Parlophone Co...' rims
The 'MT' tax/price code is visible on the side one label.
**The side 2 label only shows a distinctive groove 1cm from the edge.**
Housed in a correct front laminated, flipback 'Ernest J. Day..' cover, with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme right corner.
Complete with original 'Use Emitex' clear poly-lined inner-sleeve
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/T & 1/H
CONDITION
Labels: EXCELLENT & VERY GOOD PLUS Disc Visual & Audio: VERY GOODClean and bright surfaces retaining a bright deep gloss finish with some minor surface marks and the occaisional light scratch.
The sound is fresh and clean with only the slightest hint of intermittant groove-wear audible on some loud peaks.
However, there is one jump on 'Please, Please Me' track caused by a tiny mark.
Elsewhere there is very little to fault apart from a few light 'pops' mainly between some tracks.
100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping.
GOOD
This early and correct cover for this pressing displays moderate handling and storage wear.
The front panel is clean with light wear, the rear is clean apart from some small pen marks beside certain tracks.
There is damage to the lower flipback but all other are in good shape and fully intact.
All seams are strong and unsplit and the spines is clean, clear and undamaged
Strict visual & audible gradings under intense direct light & at volume on high-end audio equipment
