Beatles ‘Please Please Me’ Original Mono First Pressing
(50th Anniversary March 2013)
I’m selling this piece of vinyl history on behalf of a friend who has no access to ebay. It comes from her late husband’s collection.
It has the early gold Parlophone labels. Though I’m no expert I’ve done a bit of research and the ‘Dick James Mus.Co.’ is credited wrongly on a number of tracks, apparently indicating that this is one of the very earliest produced.
The relevant numbers are as follows:
Side 1
Matrix = XEX 421 – 1N
Mother = 1
Stamper = GR
Side 2
Matrix = XEX 422 – 1N
Mother = 1
Stamper = GD
Tax Code = MT

NB.This album is 50 years old and has been used! I haven’t attempted any cleaning and there are very small traces of what appear to be food / drink splatter and numerous small scratches on the surfaces.
Side one has three distinct scuffs which go from the outside across all of the tracks (see pic. 7). They look nasty, but I was surprised when I played it on my little turntable, that it sounded fine with no jumps. They may be audible when listening to it on a better quality system, but I can’t tell.
Side two plays fine with the exception of track 5, ‘A taste of Honey’, which skips forward a groove, towards the very end of the song. May be cured with a clean, but again, who knows?
The album comes with its original sleeve and the original ‘Emitex’ inner sleeve. The inner sleeve has a 2” split in the centre of one edge, (pic. 5) caused by the disc. The corners of the outer sleeve have taken most of the wear and there are a couple of ancient sellotape repairs on the back.
