Description

This is a first pressing of The Beatles' 'Please Please Me' bought in April 1963.
It has the gold on black label and 'Dick James Mus. Co' and the other publishers on the label.
The reference XEX 412 - 1N is printed into the run-off groove.

The record is not mint but 'Good to Very Good'. There are surface scratches associated with many plays by a music-mad 16 year-old and the cover is sound but badly marked and written on by my girlfriend (now wife!). The original inner sleeve is good.

What is great is the sound - this record still plays beautifully. It's great on modern electronic kit, but is fantastic through a valve-powered amplifier with big speakers and the volume up! This is the sound the Beatles wanted, even at this early stage of their career. They were not interested in stereo at this time.

It's well known that this album was recorded in just one day, Lennon's voice was in shreds when it got to 'Twist And Shout', and the result is one of most fantastic rock tracks ever recorded. Everything else on this iconic album is just brilliant!

There were many subsequent pressings because of staggeringly high (and unforeseen!) demand. First pressings are now rare and sought after, and whilst this may not be the most immaculate, it is an honest copy, bought as a birthday present from my Mum and played and played and adored ever since.
I am disposing of most of my vinyl, this is my most cherished album, but we're keeping my wife's fourth pressing!
