The Beatles Please Release Me 2LP Rare Import EX/EX
Up for sale this week are a handful of rare Beatles Imports that I picked up at an estate sale. All of these are in super nice condition and represent some of the best Beatles Boots out there. Check them all out.
This auction is for Please Release Me, a great compilation of early Beatles Material recreating the album using acetates and BBC cuts. I professionally cleaned these on my VPI cleaner and upgraded the degrading sleeve to audiophile MOFI inners. The results are very pleasing. Jacket on this is above the normal import release and looks heavy and professional. It shows a bit of wear but overall is a VG++/EX. See pics. Records are mostly EX condition. Some of the ticks and pops are likely from the original acetates they used here and not a defect of the pressing itself. I grade it an EX as well.

This LP set pre-dates the flood of high-quality studio material that surfaced around 1990, but is no doubt sourced from the first flush of new material, viz. the BBC's broadcasts of their recordings of the Beatles. Many of the Please Please Me LP session tracks have of course since shown up, which would have made for a result more in keeping with this boot's stated aims, but for its time, this was a very nice acquisition. Indeed, if only for the artwork, it still is!
Notes from the back of the album:
"This is the second in a series of albums which will offer, for the first time, the finest quality alternate versions of every track ever recorded by the Beatles. On this album, we have been able to offer a complete outtake version of the original LP, which makes for great listening and an interesting comparison. Side Three continues the BBC tracks recorded, but not officially issued including the magnificent, haunting Beatle version of the Ann Margaret interpretation of "I just don't understand"... surely a highpoint of all the unissued tracks the fab four ever recorded. Two more typically unsophisticated Chuck Berry songs and some fab interviews relevant to the period cap off a truly fine collection.
"In all cases, the versions chosen for this series are the best quality sound (and most complete) ever available; therefore giving us the unique opportunity to listen to whole (or as near as possible) outtake albums; an interesting experience in itself. With many tracks, there only exists a partially complete version, sometimes "intros" are marred by overenthusiastic DJs; so, many hours were spent editing intros, substituting song ends/fades, and in one case, editing a different middle eight. There are some edits which may be obvious due to different sound quality, tempos etc ... (for which we apologise, but "we ain't no George Martin"). It is likely that some die-hard fans will already be aware of the missing starts, short ends, far too rapid fades etc., and may look for the repaired results, but for most of you, the convenience of all the "complete" tracks will probably go unrecognised (which basically was our aim anyway - to sound like a standard Beatles album). But what more could you ask for, a reunion?
