Beatles Related Psych LP White Label Promo Around Grapefruit by Grapefruit

For those unfamiliar, Grapefruit was a band that was originally signed to Apple Records as early as 1967, while the label was still forming.  John Lennon named the group after Yoko’s 1963 book of that same title.  Paul McCartney had originally produced a version of the track, “Lullabye” for the album, but when the band was released from their Apple contract in 1968, they re-recorded the version heard here.

(By the way, band member Alexander Young, who went by the stage name George Alexander is in fact, the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young, founding members of AC/DC.)

This album is surprisingly very good.  The musicianship and songwriting quality, while in a different pop direction, are every bit as good as Badfinger.  Great sunshine pop psychedelia, catchy tunes with a hard edge to them.  You should YouTube the album, especially if you don’t win this promo copy.

Vinyl--- Very beautiful VG+, meaning that the disc retains about 95% of its original gleam, with two or three soft scuffs that you can’t feel with your fingertip.  Pressed by Monarch Records with their logo in the dead wax.

Cover--- Worn.  I won’t lie, and neither will the photos.  Has the “Promotional Copy Not For Sale” sticker affixed to the front cover.  Back cover has an area on the left side, where there is some missing slick.  See photos.  Both sides have heavy ringwear and dirtwear.  Top seam has a 4 inch split, bottom seam and spine have shelfwear.

Labels--- Beautiful NM.  Full Dunhill gloss on the white promo labels, no spindle marks!

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white sleeve original to this LP is in fine condition, no splits.

Occasionally, you’ll see commercial copies come up for sale, but not that often at all.  White label promo copies are scarce as hell.  If you don’t grab this one, you’ll not see another for a few decades.

Note:  All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!) 

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
