Beatles Related RARE Cult Psych LP The Fool 1968 NM
For those unaware, The Fool was a hippie art troupe who were also friends with The Beatles. They designed the side of the Apple Boutique building in London, as well as having designed album covers for Cream, Procol Harum and The Hollies. They put out one album, which was produced by Graham Nash.
Presumably, their name was chosen from the card in the Tarot deck, as opposed to honoring whoever the guy was who gave them a record contract. (Sorry, that was mean!)
Actually, this album is a perfect mesh of hippie psychedelia, minstrel instrumentation, lush harmonies and very druid-like lyrics. This is an astonishing time capsule of the flower children side of the hippie movement, which explored the pagan side of pot smoke and LSD. It’s perhaps the one side of the counter-culture which is the most overlooked and forgotten about, but which at the time, had a very strong foothold.
Vinyl--- VG++ to NM. I grade it that way, because there is a manufacturer’s defect which does not look ugly, and does not affect play. The album is very nearly unplayed-looking, except for those light marks created during pressing.
Cover--- Structurally very solid. Cover has no splits. Top and bottom seams show light shelfwear, not much at all. Front cover has a small rectangle of slick missing, where a sticker was removed. Back cover shows moderate ringwear and light record outdent. Gatefold looks very nice!
Labels--- Perfect labels, no spindle marks. New-looking!
Inner Sleeve--- Original plain white sleeve with no die-cut hole for the label to show, which was Mercury Records’ signature, is present and in great condition. A generic white sleeve will be provided, so as not to split the original sleeve during shipment to you.
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
