Description

THE BEATLES - 'REVOLVER'

1966 UK 1st MONO PRESSING LP

**XEX 606-1**

*RARE 'GROOVED' LABELS*

This rare first UK mono pressing includes the withdrawn 'remix 11' version of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' available only on this pressing.

This copy also features rare 'grooved/indented' labels on both sides. No explaination has arisen to describe this features although I have seen it on some later pressings of this album, a few late copies of 'Rubber Soul' and selected other EMI LPs from 1966 - but never on this 1st pressing..

Here is that rare 1966 first mono pressing on the UK black & yellow Parlophone label: PMC 7009
Both labels carry the 'Sold in UK..' text and 'Gramophone Co Ltd...' rims
As you can see from the photos, both labels have clear grooves/indentations around them.
The side 2 label carries the 'Dr Robert' spelling and the KT tax/price code.

Housed in the rarer front laminated 'tri-flipback' mono 'E.J. Day' cover.
Complete with original white 'Patents Applied For' inner sleeve.

Matrix numbers: XEX 605-2 & XEX 606-1
Stamper numbers: 7/OA & 1/AT

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: VERY GOOD

Obvious wear to the centre holes with many spindle trails but no other faults.

Visual: VERY GOOD MINUS

The surfaces are clean but bear many light surface marks (most careless fingernail lines) and sleeve removal hairlines with the occaisional light scratch.
The only major mark is a 2mm blemish on 'Love To You' but otherwise there are no deep or 'feelable' scratches.
The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable without dishing or warping.

Audio: VERY GOOD MINUS

Played many times some groovewear is audible throughout causing some distortion and light crackle.
'Taxman' begins with a few seconds if hiss and the mark on 'Love To You' 'pops' 6 times but does no repeat or jump.
There are a few soft 'ticks' between tracks but no jumps or repeats anywhere. 'Tomorrow Never Knows' plays well with minimal wear only.

Cover: VERY GOOD PLUS

Clean, strong and unyellowed, this example bears just a few minor creases to the spine area and a few 'thumbnails' but no major faults.
All corners bear some light storagewear with a small stain to the lower left, but the opening edge is straight and clean with no tears or feathering.
The rear panel is clean and black with a hint of storagewear but no marks, writing or missing paper.
The spine is clean, undamaged and readable with no missing laminate and all flipbacks and seams are strong, intact and unsplit.

Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp & audibly at volume on high-end audio equipment
