The Beatles – Rubber Soul 1965 – UK 1st press (-1 'loud cut') on the yellow & black Parlophone labels with rare MT tax code. PMC 1267 dating to on or before the original 3rd December 1965 release date. Comes in its original 1st issue E J Day cover patents pending sleeve.
An EXCELLENT sounding copy of this rare -1 'loud cut' 1st pressing.
Of all Rubber Soul matrix variants that were released in 1965 the -1 matrix pressing is by far the rarest. Pressed in relatively small numbers; one only has to look at the frequency at which they now appear at auction to realise how scarce they are.
As John Lennon once said ‘Rubber Soul’ is when it started to get interesting’. A great album with tracks such as ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Michelle’, ‘Girl’, ‘in My Life’ and many more.
The workload of the Beatles in 1965 was enormous. After finishing their 2nd American tour at the end of August 1965 they returned home and under pressure from EMI were compelled to write, record and produce an album in time for the Christmas market.
It’s an indication of their genius; for what they came up with inside those few weeks was the masterpiece – Rubber Soul. Recording finished in November of 1965 and discs were cut on 17th, 19th and 23rd of that month and rushed to the EMI pressing plant in Hayes where production immediately started. The finished article was delivered into the shops on the 3rd December 1965.
Happy bidding and good luck!

CONDITION
Disc
Visual: Side 1 VG+/EXC- Side 2 VERY GOOD
Side one has various light sleeve removal marks visible in daylight along with some handling marks but nothing which is feelable or that could be described as a scratch, side one grades somewhere between VG+ and excellent minus. Side two has clearly been played many times and has general surface marks and scuffing across the vinyl, however none of the marks interfere with play. The heavy duty disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Labels: EXCELLENT
Both labels have traces of visible spindle marks. Side one has the rare MT tax code.
Audio: EXCELLENT
An excellent sounding disc of this -1 'loud cut' pressing with most tracks grading at excellent+. Tracks such as Norwegian Wood and Girl play superbly. I did detect some playwear in places most noticeable on the track Michelle but overall not too much to fault other than some occasional light surface noise. Most gaps are silent. There are no loud pops or ticks and the record does not jump or stick.
Cover
VERY GOOD+
An original and rare 1965 E J Day cover. The front panel grades between VG+ and excellent minus. The rear panel has some ageing and soiling and grades at VG, however all flipbacks are strong and intact and there is no writing to any part of the sleeve. The spine is undamaged and in great condition.
Inner-sleeve EXCELLENT
Original 1965 rice paper inner with light handling creases. There are no seam splits.
