READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles’ Second Album 1964 Mystery Consignment LP with Original Baggie, VG++!

I’m not entirely sure which plant this copy was consigned from.  While it shares most of its trademarks with Decca, it has an extra concentric ring that I’ve never seen on Decca albums from other artists.  It’s possible that this one could be from a Decca plant that I’m not familiar with.  See photos.

Early pressings from some parts of the country were issued in loose plastic baggies, rather than having been shrinkwrapped.  In my opinion, these baggies did a superior job protecting the album covers than shrinkwrap ever did.  But the problem is that most of the time, these baggies were thrown in the trash.  If you find copies of these early covers that were stored in the baggies, they tend to be in EX to NM condition.

There are two for sale this week, which I hate to part with!

Vinyl--- VG++/VG++.  That grade of mine indicates that the sides are far too strong to be graded VG+.  But they’re also just this side of the fence from an EX grade.  There are very light lines on both sides.  None are feelable with the fingertip.  Between the two sides, this copy shines about 90% to 95% brand new.

A VERY good-looking record.

Plates--- T2/T14.  “T”-series plates were often assigned to Decca, which supports a Decca-consigned disc.  No Capitol insignias present in the dead wax, because this is not a Capitol-pressed record.

Cover--- EX.  Structurally solid cover.  There are slight marks through the letter “A” in “BEATLES,” as well as through one of the top photos.  One more in the cream-colored blank space.  The one through the letter “A” in “BEATLES” has a corresponding mark on the baggie, but the other two didn’t mark through.

Baggie--- VG.  Less wrinkled than the other one for sale this week.  Has a light amount of dirtwear.  One small tear over the letter “A” in the word, “ALBUM,” one giant leap for mankind.

Original price sticker is still affixed to the top right corner of the sleeve.

Breathe Holes--- There’s a pair of breathe holes that align under the letter, “L” in “BEATLES.”

Labels--- EX/EX.  Labels look nearly new, with the exceptions of just a few very light, very short spindle marks.  100% high gloss still intact, no dulling.

East coast labels were used for this consignment pressing, and we know that they are first-printed labels, due to the error running time on Side 1 for “You Can’t Do That.”  Correct running time is 2:33. First pressing labels listed it as 2:23.  Also, the obligatory running times for the first two tracks on Side 2 are missing.

The running time was corrected on subsequent pressings, the missing running times on Side 2 weren’t until 1967.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+. Company Capitol deep blue sleeve is present.  Slight yellowing, but NO SEAM SPLITS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: None.  Most consignment covers had no RIAA, unless supplied from a specific plant.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
