Up for auction is the ultra rare Capitol Record Club version of Beatles Second Album from 1968. The research I have done indicates that this one and Beatles VI were only made for roughly 3 months on the colorband label for the record club. There are plenty green label versions out there from late 1969 and 1970 but not this one. One site claims that only 10 are known in existence.....whether this is true or not, I don't know. Another site claims it's in the top 10 most rare American Beatle records. There's one other on ebay right now and it is the first that I have seen on ebay in 2 years so there is no doubt that this one is becoming more and more rare.

Please see pics for condition. As you can see the cover has a small tear on the front and a minor glue stain that would probably come off (I didn't try) and a stain and name written on the back cover. The spine has some damage as you can see but The Beatles Second Album can still be read. And other than that the cover holds together very nicely and in spite of the spine damage, it's pretty sharp otherwise.

The record labels are nice as you can see but does have a name written on side 1 (luckily where the capitol swirl is so it's harder to notice this). No times for the first 2 tracks on side 2 like the first pressing were.

This record sounds most excellent. Again, just so there is no doubt I will call the record VG++ but to me it plays excellent without a doubt. It has been professionally cleaned and after playing on my turntable I can say there was little to no background noise whatsoever and only the occasional pop and tick from various hairline marks and scratches (though there are hardly any). Forgot to mention though I suppose it's obvious that this is a STEREO copy. Again, this album has been play graded and sounds really nice.

Record grading :

Mint (M):  Perfection, no flaws, defects, marks or otherwise indications of being handled or played. Any scuffs, hairline scratches or other marks disqualify discs from this category. I do not use this grade, as even the act of inserting the disc or removing it from the paper sleeve may cause scuff marks on the vinyl.

Near Mint (NM):  This is highest grade assigned to opened, handled records. The vinyl is near flawless, bright and shiny. A very minor, barely visible scuff or two may be permitted, but no scratches. The disc should play with no audible noise. The label is bright, clean and unmarked.

Excellent (EX):  Disc plays nicely, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. There can possibly be a few hairline scratches but nothing that affects play. Vinyl is clean with few hairlines etc; label is clean.

Very Good Plus (VG+):  Some visible surface wear, very minor scratches and scuffs, but minimal impact on the sound quality. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or minor writing, etc.) but otherwise clean.

Very Good (VG):  Vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that can cause surface noise, but do not overpower the music. Vinyl could appear a bit dull. Labels may have small tears, tape marks, writing, etc. but easily legible. There may be wear or marks around spindle hole.

Good (G):  Well-played, dull, grayish vinyl with deeper scratches and wear causing distracting surface noise (hisses, pops, cracks and other noises). Labels may be significantly damaged.  This is not the kind of record you want to buy if you are looking for great quality.
