Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by the English rock band The Beatles, released on 26 May 1967 in the United Kingdom.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential and important albums ever recorded, it spent 27 weeks at number one on the UK charts and won four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
This copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is an extremely early UK pressing, specifically an initial 1967 first-run mono edition (Parlophone cat. no. PMC 7027).
The matrix numbers and stamper codes on the run off track point directly to the earliest batches pressed immediately around the album's release.
Breaking Down the Deadwax Matrix Numbers (XEX 637-1 / XEX 638-1):
The "XEX" prefix designates a mono master, while the "1" on both sides indicates the very first lacquer cut, copies ending in -1 were the first ones pressed when the album was released.
Stamper Codes
Side 1 : 2 / GL 1.1
Side 2 : 4 / GG 1.1
EMI used the "GRAMOPHONE CO LTD" string as a cipher for stampers (G-R-A-M-O-P-H-O-N-E = 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0).Side 1 was made with the 2nd stamper.Side 2 was made with the 4th stamper.Since a single stamper could press hundreds of records before wearing out, a code of 2 and 4 means this specific disc was pressed from the very first stampers used at the factory in Hayes, Middlesex, making it an incredibly early pressing.
Mother Codes (Side 1: 1.1, Side 2: 1.1): The "1" before the dot designates it as the first "mother" generated from the master lacquer.
Labels: Black and yellow Parlophone labels
stating "The Gramophone Co. Ltd." around the perimeter rim and "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions" beneath the logo.
Sleeve:
A fully laminated, internal flipback gatefold sleeve manufactured by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.
It has the a single-sided full-colour cardboard cut-out sheet which is in excellent condition, no marks or pin holes.
Inner Sleeve:
An un-punched, red and white psychedelic "The Fool" inner sleeve with Patents Applied For printed on the bottom right hand corner.
The Vinyl carries all the correct information for a first press & has the K & T tax code embossed either side of the spindle on side two.
The condition through out the whole item I would say ranges from excellent to very good plus, the vinyl has retained its full sheen & playback is still crisp & sharp & that’s because
mono pressings from this era were mastered loud and cut deep into the vinyl, they possess incredible punch and bass energy that modern stereo mixes cannot replicate.
