Description

Original Master Recording 1-100, 1983. This is the individual issue, not from the box set. Original series of MFSL releases. NOT UHQR. Thin, very high quality vinyl pressed in Japan. Not 45 rpm, not a double album, not 150, 180 or 200 gram. Analog, no digital.

Collector quality depending upon your criteria. Issues with warping in front cover paper, light wear and LAST sticker on side 1 label. See my notes by song. I do not use visual or Goldmine standards as I have been burned too many time. I not what I see and hear so you will have reasonable assurances of what you will hear.

Cover and materials: See photos. Overall very nice for age. Cover has light wear, warping/ bubble in the paper on front cover, Inner cover looks great with a little bubbling of the glue lines. Protective insert shows just a touch of age discoloration. Original inner sleeve is very good with some wrinkling (they all seem to have) and no dog-ears but there is an impression of the disc. Replacement inner sleeve very recent. I believe the plastic outer protective sleeve may be original as it has the perforations and hole in the center, though I am not sure when MOFi switched to this.

Label: Intact, no discoloration, no rough edges on spindle holes. LAST sticker may or may not come off.

Vinyl: Looks excellent with just some faint hairlines under overhead lighting. I do not sell vinyl with skips, jumps, extensive groove damage or significant warps.

Note: As this is an album that is often approached very analytically, I am being very specific in my description. We all have experiences where a visual “mint” means pretty noisy. Some would call this vinyl “near mint” and possibly even say the sound is “near mint”. I would not characterize it that way though it looks and plays really well.  As my minimum bid is higher than others I have listed, I want you to know what you are getting to make your best decision on bidding amount.

All vinyl evaluations are subjective- below is how it sounds to me on a dialed in VPI Prime with 3D printed tonearm and Soundsmith Zephyr MK III cartridge (contact line diamond stylus). Sitting position is in equilateral triangle with the speakers. You may hear the album differently than I based on your equipment and ears. I  am attempting to be very clear with the condition of the record as I hear it; please do not nit-pick and say “You missed two clicks” or other issues. If there are serious issues please let me know.

Side 1

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: A touch of noise prior to the orchestral warmup. Clean as music starts. Just a brief touch of low crackle  during a note or two in the first chorus. Transition clean.

A Little Help from My Friends:   A few light crackles in quiet space before LSD.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds: Pretty clean, a few subtle ticks but I was really listening for them. Quiet transition.

Getting Better:  Pretty clean. Quiet transition.

Fixing a Hole: Pretty clean, a couple subtle ticks but I was really listening for them. A touch of groove rumble and a couple light ticks in the transition.

She’s Leaving Home: A few quiet ticks through song and into the transition.

Being for the Serenity of Mr. Kite: Pretty clean. Fade out clean with some very light noise in run out groove but overall pretty quiet.

Side 2

Within You Without You: Clean intro and through the song save for one medium low tick. Nearly clean transition with a touch of crackle.

When I’m Sixty-Four:  Some mostly subtle ticks but I was really listening for them. Quiet transition.

Lovely Rita: Pretty clean. Quiet transition.

Good Morning, Good Morning: Pretty clean. Quiet transition.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (reprise): Pretty clean. Quiet transition.

A Day in the Life: Pretty clean with two subtle ticks before the crescendo and then some into the run-out groove.

“Oh, boy” what a great listen!

Price is set at the minimum I will accept with no reserve. I think it is very reasonable and takes the condition into account.
