It's been a couple of years since I sold my last items on Ebay as I put all my belongings into storage and moved to Spain, so my detailed seller ratings are no longer available. "Shipping and handling charges": 4.7 out of 5 (due to the expensive Danish postal service, as I've never charged any fees). "Shipping time": 4.8 out of 5.

This is the original UK edition of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" released on Parlophone in 1967. It comes with the psychedelic inner sleeve and the uncut cardboard cut-outs.

The sound clips were recorded with a Rega RP-3 with a Rega Exact needle (Rega's best MM needle), a separate power supply, and the phono stage Parasound Z-phono, and then straight into Wavelab on my computer. I'm sorry about the light hum in the background. My computer needs a ground socket (but there is none in my flat).

The first one is Lee Hazlewood, the second Black Sabbath. The first half of each sound clip was recorded with my previous turntable, Thorens' 100 year jubilee model, TD-126 MkIII Centennial, fitted with an Ortofon MC20 Super MkII needle. I used this turntable for over ten years and praised it constantly, but as you can hear, the Rega one is much better at tracking and is much more pleasant to listen to.

CONDITION:

A note on grading:

Consider how many used records are advertised as being in near mint condition. Of all the used records I have bought online I have fully agreed with the grade in around 5 % of the cases. I've had 2-3,000 used records in my own collection or that I bought to sell on. Only around 10-15 of those I would grade near mint.

Grading records in regular room light, neon light or in sunlight on a cloudy day is a joke! I have bought records that looked Mint- under those conditions but in proper light only VG! Some sellers, understandably, prefer these light sources, as the records will look better and thus command a higher price. But where is the honesty and customer service? I only ever use two light sources for grading: Direct sunlight from an unclouded sky, or halogen spot lights. Some collector's don't care how a record looks as long as it plays fine. Others want them to both look and sound great. These two light sources reveal EVERYTHING, and I am 100 % confident that no one will be unhappy with the grades I give (it is yet to happen)!

I use Record Collector's scale (Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, Bad), and I add + and – to approximate grades (but no more than one + or -). Occasionally I also grade something for instance VG(+) if it's between VG and VG+.

I've been collecting for 15 years, and while I have also sold many records I've mostly been on the circuit as a buyer. I have seen consistently that what most people grade EX I grade VG+ or VG. What most people grade EX+ I grade VG+. What most people grade VG+ I grade VG or VG-, and so on. What some people grade VG I grade Fair! To me VG is not a great record but nevertheless something that in many cases I would be happy to have in my own collection. Others see VG as something completely trashed.

THE RECORD:

In regular room light it looks almost pristine with only a few light sleeve marks. When I bought this record, only neon light was available, and I thought: "Wow! The perfect copy!". In direct sunlight and under halogen spot lights the record is fairly covered by sleeve marks, but no surface scratches or scuffs – only many sleeve marks. As you can hear above it sounds absolutely lovely! Even on my previous Thorens turntable it sounded great. Visually, I would say VG, but remember that this is not Fair. I'm sure most would call this at least VG+ even if they saw it in sunlight (and EX to Near Mint in room light).

THE COVER:

The cover is the real gem here! It still makes that squeaking sound when you open the gatefold! As you can see in the pictures, there are a few areas with slight problems, the biggest being the slight fading by the spine and the lamination peel on the back. Nevertheless, this is easily the best copy of this cover that I have ever seen! Overall EX if not EX(+).

The cardboard cut-outs are practically pristine and brand new with razor sharp corners.

The psychedelic inner sleeve is unfortunately the worst thing in the entire package. I believe I found this one in another copy. It's split 9 cm at the bottom and 17 cm on one side. The other side is not split, but there is also a crack at the top, some folding all around and a few brown spots.

POSTAGE COSTS:

All records will be sent in sturdy mailers designed for the purpose, and the records will be removed from the cover to avoid any creasing/tearing. The following charges The Danish postal system have gone crazy in recent years, and I'm not making any money on postage. There is hardly any difference in the charge between airmail and surface mail in the Danish postal system, so I have only listed the prices for airmail below (ask if you'd like the prices for surface mail).
