The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band UHQR MFQR 1-100 EMI - Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Original Master Recording UHQR MFQR 1-100 Limited Edition #4819 of 5000
If you are reading this you probably know as much or more than me about the UHQR series of recordings from Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. However, the short version as I understand it is that the original recordings were remastered at half speed. The vinyl used in the LPs was a special formula called "Supervinyl" made and pressed by JVC in Japan. The blank is flat edge-to-edge to minimize groove side friction and is twice as thick as a standard commercial vinyl LP. The pressings were limited to 5000 and pressed for an unusually long time compared to standard LPs.
Purchased new by my stepfather in 1982 and only played about a dozen times on an audiophile turntable purchased from and professionally set up by Audio Consultants in Evanston, IL. I remember being flabbergasted at how much he paid ($50 when regular LPs were $10 and gas was less than a buck a gallon). He handed it down to me after I transcribed his vinyl to CDs about 5 years ago. I have played it only a few times on a Thorens turntable also purchased new from and maintained by Audio Consultants.
The photos of the LP have been brightened to make the condition of the grooves more visible.
LP Condition: The LP plays with nearly no surface noise or pops (no fingerprints or scratches obviously). As indicated, it has barely been played. I would rate the quality of the LP itself as near mint. I wear archivist gloves when handling my LPs. Note: The "bubble" and dark line at the 6 o'clock position in the closeup of the grooves is a reflection of one my of track light cans and the track; not a flaw in the vinyl.
Box Condition: I may be underselling (I am not an expert) the "Sleeve Grading" at "Very Good" due to some bubbles in the label covering the box and lettering wear in the red script in lower right quadrant of the front of the box. The lettering on the spine of the box is excellent. The box corners are all solid without any separation. There is surface wear on the top corners. The foam inserts are still plush and pliable (haven't turned to dust/brittle).
Jacket Condition: The jacket has a mild scuff mark about 3/4" long by 1/16" wide in the upper left corner in the red band affecting the finish, but not worn through the color (highlighted in photo). There is also an edge scuff on the right side of the jacket (highlighted in photo). The white inner cardboard protector and vinyl sleeve are perfect.
The numbered certificate of authenticity has a fold line in the upper left corner and can be seen in photo. The paper is parchment-like, not wrinkled due to damage. Based on other listings, the technical data sheet is not present and figured into pricing (I think).
In my opinion, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as a work in its entirety is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. When reproduced on an audiophile quality sound system, this particular pressing is very warm.
Selling, because I can't justify playing this in my current listening environment due to street noise without playing at a volume that may irritate my neighbors. In addition, I have some impending medical expenses. Hence the low starting and buy it now prices. I have a standing offer from a local record store for $225 which I figure is probably a little less than half of what he will ask for it. He claimed to see "minor spindle wear". I don't see it, and the LP fits snuggly on the spindle of my turntable. He agreed that the playing surfaces are flawless.
