This early exampleis a 1967 UK 1st MONO pressing on the yellow & black Parlophone label: PMC 7027

Both labels bear the 'Sold in UK..' text & have ' The Gramophone Co. Ltd..' worded rims.

The 'KT' purchase tax code is visible around the side 1 centre hole.

Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1

Stamper codes: 4/AM & 2/RH

Disc weight: 144g

Housed in a fully laminated, inner-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed, 'Patents Pending', gatefold mono cover.

The word 'FOURTH PROOF' and code 'AR D 1327' are printed on the inner-flipback of the rear pocket.

This copy comes complete with its original red & white designer inner sleeve & MINT/unused cut-out sheet.

A clean & bright pair with little more than a collection of faint spindle trails around both unworn centre holes.

Visual: 1. VERY GOOD  2. EXCELLENT

Both playing surface of this extremely well-looked after copy are clean, glossy and still retain their deep-gloss finishes. The only significant visual blemish on the entire disc occurs on side 1 where a tiny pin-head sized spot, of what looks like white paint, has been scratched with a fingernail leaving some visible but light, non-feelable surface marks at the end of track 1. Apart from that and another light mark beside it, both playing surfaces display no further significant marks or wear in strong daylight. Close examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals only small number of wispy hairlines and a sparkling rainbow shine.

Play: EXCELLENT

This copy has received a number of careful plays on good-quality equipment and the sound remains warm & clean throughout. My careful play-check at volume detected no signs of any groove/play-wear distortion or any other significant audible wear. The only audible blemish I picked up were four faint 'ticks' at the end of the first track on side 1 (due to the aforementioned blemish), but nowhere else was my ear distracted away from the listening enjoyment. All of the delicate quieter passages such as the introduction to 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' played without interference and 'She's Leaving Home' was without the usual peakwear distortion so common on this pressing.

Cover

VERY GOOD

An extremely respectable example of the earliest printing of this iconic cover. The front panel is clean & vibrant with just one 'thumbnail' type wrinkle towards the front opening edge but no other signs of wear. The is slight rubbing to the extremities of the corners but no bumps or bruising to any. Some light wear is present to the opening edges but there are no tears or feathering. The inside of the gatefold is bright & clean with just a few slivers of missing paper to the uncovered edges of the flipback on the left panel but the all-important 'Fourth Proof' word and code is undamaged. There is a small area of rubbing to the upper edge of the front pocket but all others are smooth and there are no splits anywhere. The spine is a little worn but the text is intact and readable.

Clean & fully intact with some general storage creasing but no writing, tears or seam splits.
