THE BEATLES - 'SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'
1969 UK '1-EMI-BOX' *MONO* PRESSING LP
**NEAR MINT DISC IN RARE COVER**
'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' was one of only three titles issued in mono in October 1969 on EMI's then new '1-EMI-Box' label.
Some copies, like this one, were housed in experimental covers which carried both Mono & Stereo catalogue numbers in the rear upper right corner.
This particular example is also interesting as it has the 'wider' (19mm) inner flipbacks and 'This is a mono recording' in the lower right corner text block.
Copies of this title on this label were pressed in a very small quantity and quickly deleted, making both cover & disc extremely hard to find.
This NEAR MINT UK 1969 MONO pressing is on the black & silver '1-EMI-Box' label: PMC 7027
Both labels have 'Gramophone Co..' rims.
Housed in a fully laminated, 19mm ('wide') inner-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse printed gatefold mono cover.
Both the mono AND stereo catalogue numbers are printed on the rear panel.
Complete with its original plain white 'Patent No. 1125555' inner-sleeve & unusued cut-out sheet.
Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1
The '-1' tube-cut matrices are the same as the 1st pressing.
Stamper numbers: 2/MOG & 01?/MOA
Disc weight: 146g
Labels: NEAR MINT
Both labels are pristine with just a few light spindle trails visible to the centre of each label.
Visual: NEAR MINT
This copy has clearly only been out of it's cover just once or twice in the past 39 years and both surfaces are totally unmarked in strong daylight.
Apart from a few barely visible wispy paper hairlines under my halogen desk lamp, this copy is MINT/'as new'.
Both sides 100% flat on the turntable with no signs or dishing or warping.
Audio: NEAR MINT
This immaculate copy has been played just two or three times at most and sounds 'as new' throughout with no perceptible traces of audible wear to any track.
The exquisite mono mix sparkles and is without any of the blemishes or wear which so often blight earlier copies played on inferior equipment.
Side 1 begins with a silent run-in followed by all tracks playing perfectly with no traces of groovewear or background noise.
Even the easily worn 'She's Leaving Home' plays without fault with no evidence of the usual playwear or break-up.
Side 2 is equally impressive. Here again, there is no trace of wear to any track or channel.
If you are searching for a perfect sounding mono 'Pepper' for reference, this is the real deal.
Cover: EXCELLENT +
A beautiful vivid example bears a totally unscratched, high-gloss front laminate. There is just a single tiny 'thumbnail' creases but no disc impression or rubbing of any kind.
There is minor bruising to the right corners but no heavy bumps or missing laminate/paper to any. All opening edges appear untouched and are in perfect, unworn condition.
The rear panel is equally pristine with an untarnished glossy laminate bearing just a faint disc impression & a few tiny spine wrinkles but no other wear whatsoever.
The inside has a few slivers on missing paper to the uncovered edges of the flipbacks but is otherwise in immaculate condition.
All seams are strong with no splits or stresses and the spine is fully laminated with no splits and a perfect, undamaged text.
Cut-out: MINT
Inner-sleeve: NEAR MINT
Clean, flat & white with no splits, tears or any other faults.
