Description
THE BEATLES - 'SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'
1969 UK STEREO LP IN RARE *STEREO/MONO HYBRID COVER*
In late 1969, with the the mono version of this LP about to be deleted, the stereo catalogue number was added to the right of the mono indicator in the rear upper right corner. The 'This is a mono recording' text was left unchaged in the rear lower right corner.
This 'experimental' version was very short-lived and only a few hundred example are believed to have been printed.
This rare variant dates from late 1969 and the disc bears the '1-EMI Box' black and white Parlophone label: PCS 7027
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but have 'Gramophone Co. Ltd..' rims.
There is no tax/price code visible on either label.
This disc is housed in the abovementioned experimental fully laminated, wide (19mm) inner-flipback mono cover with mono AND stereo catalogue number in the rear upper right corner.
Complete with its original 'Patent number' inner-sleeve & unused cut-out insert.
Matrix numbers: YEX 637-1 & YEX 638-1
Stamper codes: 2/GPL & 1/GHH
Disc weight: 136g
CONDITION
Disc
Labels: EXCELLENT +
A clean & bright set with just a handful of light spindle marks to each entre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT +
This extremely well looked after copy displays clean, bright & glossy surfaces which display just a few insignificant wispy paper hairlines directly beneath my halogen desk lamp but no major marks or wear.
Play: EXCELLENT +
This copy has recieved just a few careful plays on excellent equipment and there is no trace of any groove/play wear in either channel throughout. In fact apaprt from some light background on the side 1 run-in & opening crowd ambience and a few soft 'pops' on 'Within Without You', there is nothing else to fault audibly.
Cover
VERY GOOD -
Difficult to find in any condition, this rare exmaple retains a superb high-gloss front laminate with no creasing or 'thumbnails'. The lower corner have suffered some shelfwear bruising and there are a few 'pushes' to the opening edges. Inside is clean & unmarked but there is some missng paper on the unlaminated edges of the inner-flipbacks. The cover's only major blemishes are a 1cm split to the upper seam and a 5cm one to the lower seam of the rear panel. However the spine is clean, fully lamimated and worded.
