"She Loves You" was written by John and Paul based on an idea by Paul. It was originally recorded for release as a single in 1963. The single set and surpassed several records in the UK charts, and set a record in the U.S. by being one of the five Beatles songs which held the top five positions in the American charts simultaneously. It is The Beatles' best-selling single in the United Kingdom, and was the best selling single in Britain in 1963.
The German division of EMI decided that the only way to sell Beatles records in Germany would be to re-record them in German. "Sie Liebt Dich" was recorded January 26, 1964, along with "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand", at the Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris. New vocals were recorded over the original backing track to "I Want to Hold Your Hand" but "She Loves You" required a new rhythm track, as the original two track recording had been destroyed The Beatles then recorded a new song, "Can't Buy Me Love". Other than the earlier sessions backing Tony Sheridan (recorded in Hamburg), “Can't Buy Me Love” (recorded in Paris), "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" (recorded at Paul's Sussex studio, over demos recorded by John in New York City), it was the only time in their career that the Beatles recorded outside London.
On May 21, 1964, “Sie Liebt Dich” was released in both Germany and the U.S. The record was a big hit in Germany, but today the English versions are much better known in Germany. In the U.S., the record peaked at Number 97.
This auction is for the Swan Records 45 “Sie Liebt Dich” backed with “I’ll Get You.” This is the version with the semi-gloss white label with red print, the German title in wide print and “(She Loves You)” printed under it. The record is in Very Good+ condition, with no scratches and nice, glossy vinyl. The labels are also Very Good+ with no writing and just a bit of ring wear on the B-side.
