Beatles VI LP 1968 Capitol “Subsidiary of…” Straight Transfer Label in Shrink, EX!

Collectors who have been trying to complete this run of 1968 Straight Transfers will likely attest that you can’t find this one.  This is without question, one of the hardest titles to find.

Straight Transfers from the 1968 “Subsidiary of…” run were the very earliest copies to hit the market.  Most, if not all of the titles in the catalogue were issued with a new label layout uniformly, which featured smaller font.  Some titles were initially issued with the old-style labels from the original pressings with the “Subsidiary of…” text simply added to the bottom perimeter, in order to make it to market on time.  These are VERY hard to find.

I’ve seen two copies of Beatles VI since 1975, and the other one is in garbage condition.  But because it’s the copy that made me aware of its existence, I’ll keep that one and sell this one. 

It’s also the copy that’s featured in my two-volume set of American Beatles labels on flash drive, which will be available this Christmas season. 

Look for it!  There are plenty of American pressings like this one, which I guarantee you’ve never heard of before.

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  Both sides look remarkably clean.  Side 1 has just two or three extremely light and short hairlines that you’ll have to search for under a bright bulb to find.  Side 2 looks nearly unplayed.

Plates--- B2/A1.  The 1968 run featured some pressings with refreshed plates in order to improve their sound quality.  These are definitely earlier refreshed plates.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- EX.  This cover looks very fresh, with just a couple of spots of light wear.  There’s an ink smudge over the split black dot on the front cover, top right.  Spine has a very small crack in the slick at the top.  Very light yellowing on the back cover down the mouth.  Otherwise, the shrinkwrap did a marvelous job, protecting the cover from ringwear and dirtwear.  If you gently pull the shrink away from the cover, you can clearly see, especially on the back cover, that the shrink took the damage, and that the cover is gorgeous underneath.  NO SEAM SPLITS.

Breathe Holes--- There is one breathe hole on the front cover.  It’s on Paul’s shirt, to our right of his tie.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Both labels are close to NM, except for one or two extremely light spindle marks per side.  99% of the “Subsidiary of…” Scranton labels that you will come across for this title were issued with a completely new layout with smaller print.  That’s the more common variation, due to both Scranton and LA using them.  See compere photo.

This one is out of control rare.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- NM. Original Capitol tan label is present.  This sleeve was with the LP when I bought it.  It’s the very last Capitol colored sleeve to have been issued in 1967, so it’s entirely possible that this 1968 issue was early enough to have these as they were exhausting their supply of 1967 sleeves.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

If you have trouble finding a Christmas gift for your Beatles collector because they have everything, I’d be willing to bet they don’t have one of these.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
