The Beatles – What A Shame, Mary Jane Had A Pain At The Party
Danish Import – 12” 45RPM Vinyl Single
Here’s what I’ve been able to find out about this very strange record: “What’s The New Mary Jane” was originally recorded on August 14, 1968, by John and George, with Yoko and Mal Evans in attendance. John wanted to include in on The White Album, but due to space limitations, and, probably, substantial peer pressure, it never made it. Over the next few months it was overdubbed and re-mixed for John to release as a Plastic Ono Band single. Fortunately, that never happened.
Two versions of “What’s The New Mary Jane” were released as “What A Shame, Mary Jane Had A Pain At The Party”, a 12” 45 RPM black vinyl single. Describing the two versions, Doug Sulpy says: “The first of these is an unedited version of the tape that was edited down to make the unreleased single. The second features a horrific barrage of horn and Yoko overdubs which makes the song ever worse than it already is.” And if that doesn’t make you want to buy it, nothing will.
Record and cover are in VG+ - NM condition. The cover art alone is worth the price of admission. Have fun.
