Description
The Beatles 'White Album'.
Very early original Uk Mono pressing including DARK APPLE LABELS!!!! Earliest MONO TOP OPENER (rare low numbered cover No. 0054407) Great audio for 40 years old. Both vinyls look and sound great. Early mother stampers. A highly collectible and sought after album!!!!
This album is on offer from my personal collection which I am now selling. Bought on the day of release, November 22nd 1968, (hence low cover number) this album is a few months off being 40 years old. in my opinion the vinyls are in very good condition for a original 1st press mono of this age. When describing this album I have tried to be as honest as possible and have never had any problems with the sound from the vinyls but do bear in mind these vinyls are very nearly 40 years old so you may have light static in some places due to them being played on systems from the 60's.
My album includes distinguishing features of an early released first pressed Mono version:
The Standard Apple logo ***there is no 'an EMI recording' above the 33 1/3 text***the sleeves are gatefold and top opening***the sleeve has a low number 0054407***the inner sleeves are black not white***the apple labels are dark green not light green as in later versions.
The official name of this album is simply 'The Beatles' but almost immediately became known as 'The White Album' due to the simple white packaging. The Album, released November 1968, had 250000 advance orders and went to No 1 in both the album and single charts (the first double album to achieve this). After just one month the album had sold 4 million copies worldwide . The minimalistic sleeve was designed by Richard Hamilton. The aim was to give the album a limited edition feel-further enhanced by consecutively numbering the sleeves. Original copies have top opening sleeves and black inner sleeves (like the one included in this auction). Later copies had side openings and included white inner sleeves. Mono Double LP Cat No. PMC 7067-8

The vinyls
Side One: Excellent condition. Clear Audio. In strong light there are very few surface marks/scuffs/scratches most are non audio sounding
Side Two: Good condition. Clear Audio. In strong light there are very few surface marks/scuffs/scratches most are non audio sounding. There is one deeper scratch near the outside of the vinyl.
Side Three: Excellent condition. Clear Audio. In strong light there are very few surface marks/scuffs/scratches most are non audio sounding
Side Four: Excellent condition. Clear Audio. In strong light there are very few surface marks/scuffs/scratches most are non audio sounding
Both vinyls lie flat on the turning table and still have their original high gloss sheen. They both look in great condition. The early stampers produce a great sound and have many differences from the stereo version. These records have been stored for the last 30 years and would benefit from a clean to enhance the audio and remove any surface dirt and dust in the grooves as this can cause static crackles.
The vinyl labels (see pic below)
The labels feature the dark green Apple logos. Little to no spindle wear. The holes are still perfectly round. The labels are free from handwriting or stickers. I have rated the label as excellent as there are no to very little spindle marks. They feature the wording 'Apple records...' around the label rim, 'sold in the uk subject to resale..' and 'mfd in uk' but there is no 'an EMI recording'. This is a clear sign of a early 1st press mono version.
The Inner Record Sleeves (see pic below)
Includes both original black inner sleeves. Both are in very good condition with no rips or tears. They are slightly crumpled from being taken in and out of the outer cover. Both are still used to house the vinyls. The black sleeves only came with early press-later ones were issued with white inner sleeves.
The Cover
Original Gatefold Top opening cover. The record No. 0054407 and The Beatles emboss is still easily readable like new. Still super glossy. The cover is in good not excellent condition. it has slightly yellowed over the past 40 years and the spine has been slightly damaged whilst being stored with other lp's.(see pic below to see the spine). Apart from this it is still very strong has no writing, tears or stickers on it and is clean. Light corner wear. No creases. Still retains square shape. Again the inside of the cover is very good condition but cannot be marked as excellent due to yellowing of the cover. This album comes from and always has been in a smoke and pet free home.
