We have just been commissioned to sell a large and important private collection of UK Beatles records. The majority of listings presented this week are from that collection, with more to follow over the coming weeks. The collection contains some of the rarest UK pressed discs which are unlikely to come onto the open market again in the forseeable future.

This genuinely low-numbered copy is a 1968 day-of-release UK 1st MONO pressing on the dark green Apple label: PMC 7067 & PMC 7068

All four labels carry the 'Sold in UK....' statement & the 'An EMI Recording' text.

A 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 4 label.

Matrix numbers: XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1 & XEX 711-1, XEX 712-1

Stamper codes: 33,3/GDH, 3/AH & 6/GRG, 2/GDM

Vinyl weight: 137g & 143g

The discs are housed within a heavy card stock, fully-laminated, inner-flipback, top-loading 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed mono cover with the extremely low number of: No.0000533

The package is complete with its original 4 colour portrait photos (with spacer/protector), UK printed matt poster & both black die-cut inner-sleeves.

CONDITION

Discs

All Labels: EXCELLENT +

A spectacular set which bear little more than two or three faint spindle trails around each unworn centre hole on disc 1. Label 4 has slightly more spindle marks than the other but this is still only a handful.

Visual: Disc 1: EXCELLENT + Disc 2: EXCELLENT

All playing surfaces are extremely clean & retain of of their 'as new' deep-gloss finishes. Inspection in strong daylight show up some harmless light surface marks from inner-sleeve storage on disc 2 but nothing more than a few harmless stylus hairlines on side 2 of disc 1 and certainly nothing I would term a 'scratch' on any side. Close and careful examination beneath my unforgiving powerful halogen desk lamp reveals nothing of any significance, just some harmless inner-sleeve removal/storage marks and hairlines. Rare to find both discs in this superior condition in one set.

Both discs play: EXCELLENT +

Such a treat to find both discs in a similar, unworn, great sounding condition. The usually overplayed disc 1 sounds fresh, clean & warm with not even any groovewear on the most often played opening track, 'Back In The USSR'. The remainder of the disc too plays without any playwear or indeed any clicks, pops or other such distraction. Disc 2 plays just as well and is its equal, with just a hint of light background on some of the quieter passages but nothing to distract too seriously from the superior mono mix.

Cover

EXCELLENT

This truly low-numbered example is constructed from thick, heavy card stock which despite some minor age-toning, retains a clean, glossy & unscratched front & rear laminate finish. The front panel's only sign of wear is a single 'thumbnail' wrinkle towards the upper edge, whilst the laminate is fully intact over the raised wording and the all important number is clean & bold. The corners are in excellent shape with only minor shelfwear rubbing to each but certainly no heavy bumps or bruises. All of the top-opening edges too are straight and undamaged. The inside of the gatefold is superbly clean, glossy and & totally unmarked. The rear panel is as clean as the front with just a faint disc impression from storage of some letters from when the cover was clearly used as something to rest on whilst addressing an envelope. However, this is only visible at a certain angle and does not spoil the overall look of the cover. The spine is fully laminated but has a few tiny splits along its length. However, both sets of text are covered and readable. Finally, all seams of both pockets are unstressed and unsplit, making this one of the most respectable low-numbered you will ever find.

Interestingly the green on George's photo is a little off-set resulting in a blurred appearance.

Clean & flat with just a few light creases from storage.

Inner-sleeves

EXCELLENT & VERY GOOD

Both a clean & fully intact with one a little more worn than the other. However, none have any tears to their centre windows or any splits to any seam.
