The Beatles
“Why”
“Cry For A Shadow”
MGM 45 with Picture Sleeve
MGM K13227 -1964
When the Beatles hit it big with "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and Meet the Beatles, demand arose for anything the Beatles had ever done. MGM Records acquired the rights to issue four tracks by Tony Sheridan and the Beatles. These were the single, "My Bonnie"/"The Saints," and the additional tracks "Why" and "Cry For a Shadow," which together had been released as an EP in Germany in July 1963.
"My Bonnie," which had been a dismal failure on its initial U.S. release, on Decca in 1962, received its second U.S. release, on MGM, on January 27, 1964. This time, it charted in the top forty. The single sold well enough for MGM to offer its other two Sheridan/Beatles songs as a single. This single, "Why" backed with "Cry for a Shadow," was released on March 27, but only made it as high as Number 88 on Billboard's Hot 100.
This auction is for an original MGM Records 45 of “Why,” backed with “Cry For A Shadow”. The Record is in Very Good ++ condition, with clean unblemished labels, and glossy vinyl, with a few minor scratches. The Picture Sleeve is Very Good+ (or better) with no ring wear, writing or sticker residue, and just a bit of wrinkling and indentations where the record was.
