Description
I bought this treasure in 1966 and did two things right: I never wrote on it and I never tried to peel away the cover that had been applied over the Beatles' legendary "Butcher album cover." This auction offers the rare, unpeeled 2nd-state Vinyl LP Album "Yesterday & Today" 1966 Capitol T-2553 Mono in super-good condition for a record that will be 50 years old next year. You can see the famous “V” in Ringo’s sweater a couple of inches below the word “Today” (see second photo for close-up view). The lower right hand corner of the cover’s back side shows the numeral 6 beside the RIAA logo, which as I understand it means the record was pressed in Los Angeles (see fourth photo for close-up). The album cover shows general wear but is otherwise in very good condition with NO HANDWRITING or other marks and NO TAPING or other such defacement. The spine is in good shape with wear showing at each end. The top and bottom edges have partial seam splits but still hold the record securely. The inner sleeve is plain white (not original). The vinyl looks and plays in Very Good to Very Good Plus condition, with minor surface noise and pops. The only highly visible scratch is on Side One, and although it is somewhat audible to the careful listener it does not cause the record to skip. The labels are in near-mint condition. Best of all, this album is in MONO, the way producer George Martin recorded it. Five decades later, it still sounds fabulous on vinyl.
