Description
The Beatles "Yesterday And Today" 3rd-state peeled mono butcher cover and record issued in the summer of 1966. It's hard enough to find a butcher cover, but to find these 40-year old copies without major splits somewhere is unusual. There is a name (Aldern) written in marker on the back ,bottom left corner of the cover and there are a few spots where when the person removed the 2nd slick a small piece of the butcher picture would come off with it...but it is totally displayable. You can see in the photos there is also approx. a 2" tear on the butcher picture with about a 1" V shape missing where the tear is. Also there is tiny residue from the glue used to adhere the 2nd slick. There is also 3 small pieces of tape under the capital logo and one on the front left edge of the picture. The # is T 2553. The basic history on these (for those who are just learning)...these are the infamous 'recalled' covers after the public outcry at the avante-garde photo originally chosen by The Beatles and their photographer Bob Whitaker. After the difficult decision was made to make the change - instead of throwing away all the original covers - Capitol Records decided they could save money by simply pasting an "un-offensive" slick over the "offensive" slick (called the trunk cover ).Thus, we have what is known in the industry as a "3rd-state peeled mono Butcher". This is a #6 pressing plant (the little number on the bottom back right corner - which means it was produced in Los Angeles). This cover comes with the original matching Los Angeles record in VG condition...as well as the original, correct-color matching Los Angeles-produced inner sleeve. There are tiny scratches from normal use and one slightly deeper scratch that goes across the last song on side 1, but when I played it on my record player there was no skips on either side. The back has a slight dark ring where the record impression has worn a circle. This is a highly-collectable piece of history. U.S. buyer to pay $7.00 . International buyer please inquire for shipping costs. Insurance is not required but highly recommended for U.S. buyers.
