Description

You are bidding on the infamous SECOND STATE (UNPEELED) BEATLES BUTCHER COVER that easily rates a Very Good ++ rating.

This is the 1966, U.S., Capitol, 11-track, black & rainbow label, mono LP “Yesterday and Today” album on Capitol records, T-2553.  What makes this so valuable?  This cover has a slick error. When the “trunk cover” was pasted over, the slick wasn't squarely glued and a small portion of the original shows by the spine, leaving no doubt that this is a true, hard-to-find (HTF) “Butcher” cover.

The paste over runs down the spine, from nothing to 1/16 of an inch gap at the bottom.  (See the picture -- visible in lower left corner.)  Additionally, Ringo’s black V-neck sweater clearly shows through the middle right side of the steamer trunk slick.  (See other picture, please.)

No effort has ever been made to remove the paste over “trunk” picture.  The cover is fairly clean on both sides and there is no peeling on the spin; it is clearly readable.  The only negatives that prevent this from being a near mint cover are a 1/4-inch split on the top opening edge and a 1/8-inch split on the bottom opening edge, both of which are barely noticeable.  The cover has no marks, no BB holes, no cut corners.  It does have the very slightest indication of ring wear visible on the back.

If you intend to peel it (or to have it professionally peeled,) this is just about as good as they come, given that this album is approaching 40 YEARS OLD!

This record and cover came from plant #6 (LA, I believe), which is one of the harder versions to find.

This 33 rpm record rates a Very Good.  Both sides retain nearly all of their original high gloss finish.  This is the black label with the rainbow edge (Recorded in England), T-2553 (T-X-1-2553) and a trail off that read F21 for side 1 and T-2553 (T-X-1-2553) and trail off of G18 for side 2.

Side 1 has a few surface marks, while side 2 also has a few surface marks and one scratch through the last two cuts.  However, none of these affects play.  I have played the record through and there are no skips.  The labels are clean -- no writing.
