The Beatles – Yesterday… and Today: 2nd State Butcher Cover

I’m not going to go into the history of the famous “Butcher” cover on the Yesterday… and Today album. But I will tell the story of this particular Yesterday… and Today album:
About 13 years ago I took my family on vacation to Santa Cruz, California. In between sightseeing, eating, and resting, we stopped at every thrift store, record shop, and yard sale we could find, hoping to stumble across some fabulous Beatle treasure. Somewhere between Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, I can’t remember where, we found another Goodwill Store, and we began browsing. I came across a bin of records. There we Beatle records in the bin, and this copy of Yesterday… and Today was among them. Obviously, someone had tried to peel the cover in the hopes of revealing the famous “Butcher” cover. Unfortunately, they failed miserably, and destroyed a good part of the cover in the process. Nonetheless, I knew the “Butcher” was under there; that telltale triangle was clearly visible to the right of the trunk. The cover was severely damaged and had lost much of its collector value, but I was pretty excited anyway. I casually approached the old geezer at the register, record in hand. “I see you found the “Butcher” cover,” he said, smiling, dashing my hopes for a quick kill. “It’s trashed,” I replied. “It’s still a “Butcher” cover,” was his comeback. We dickered; it was kind of fun. I definitely hadn’t expected to find a fellow Beatlemanic in the wilderness.
Up for auction is a mon, 2nd state “Butcher” cover, Yesterday… and Today LP. It has a small seam split on the top, and is almost completely split through the spine and the bottom. I’m not going to attempt to grade it. If the cover wasn’t missing the lower right corner it might be Very Good-. But the corner is missing. Still, it is a “Butcher” cover.
